Soooooo . . . . I love talking names.

I tend to subscribe a bit to the school of thought that the power of naming is heap big magic, potentially . . . . .

My real, honest-to-gawd first name is 'Kia', pronounced just like the Korean car company . . . . . My mom gave it to me decades before those auto makers taught everyone how to spell it . . . . .

& until that corporation came on the scene my name was very unusual. I'd only met or heard of a very few others .. . . . & then came Twitter & I found dozens, that was odd -- & totally off-topic . . . . *wanders back onto the path of 'twue' conversation*

In the last few years, as I've gotten involved in the out-&-organized kink world & been hanging out on CM & etc, I've gotten focused on figuring out a screen-name / scene-name that incorporates my real first name (for both simplicity's & transparency's sake, it just 'felt' right), is distinct from the BDSM 'masses', & said important things about who I am.

& one of my many perversions is I like the tools of business, especially marketing, & I kinda tend to think 'naturally' in those frames & I definitely think of dating as a 'marketing campaign' . . . . . (& if that ain't surreal enough for you spend a second or two contemplating that I'm a Marxist, too, lol) . .. . . . .

I've always got potential: business names; book, short story, essay, chapter, poem, et al titles; character names; authorial pseudonyms; fictional place names; & etc; mulling about in my head, somewhere. (There are back burners in the murk, there . . . . ) & I've been at that for decades . . . . .

Ah, but 'demon' was 'given' to me, sorta . . . . Some friends in the local community started calling me the demonatrix & I was charmed. I kinda lean punsterish & I liked how it unfolded into the demon o' tricks, too . . . . . I technically don't like gendered language & the whole dominatrix thing is kinda pet-peevish territory for me, & so the friends were kinda teasin' me. So. I jus' lopped that troublesome -atrix suffix off, spent some time ruminating on dictionary & encyclopedia definitions, & started calling myself a 'demon' . .. . .

Functionally, anyone who's likely to get negatively plugged in about the various mythical connotations of the term 'demon' -- fundamentalist religionists of various stripes, for instance -- are people I'd probably not be terribly compatible with, so that's a helpful insta-communication / filter . . .. .

& I'm petty enough to be very tickled to sign off emails with 'The Demon, Kia' . . . . . . Or even sillier versions such as 'That Dwastardly Demon, Kia' . .. .. .

I like to play Devil's Advocate, with myself if none other . .. . .

I tend to suspect that if I was inclined to believe in literal thinking about Christian tenets, I'd lean towards seein' Jehovah as the bad guy & Lucifer as having gotten a bum rap . .. . . *adopts Maxwell Smart voice* -- Missed bein' a Satanist by that much -- *holds up fingers, closely spaced*

I have a strong interest in spiritual issues, but I can be renegade in my take on stuff. & I've long been fascinated with Hell & all that mythology . ... .

I thought Demon made a nice counterbalance to all the Goddesses floating about in the 'community', & was frankly kinda surprised it wasn't more common. I had some of that, 'Ah, ha!' about scoring it before it becomes hip.

Status: offline 		my screen name is a creation of my imagination back when D&D first hit the shelves and i needed a character name. Cilissa Antea. i've since used Cilissa as my nick for MU*'s, IRC, BBS's, and anywhere else online that asked "What are you to be called?" :)

Status: offline 		I agree with most of the posters here that your screen name doesn't define you, but it certainly can serve as a piece of information that helps to craft your image in other people's mind. Fair or not, when I don't know somebody from Adam and have very limited information (like in the context of an initial email or board posting) then all the information that I do have become more important. In many cases a screen name doesn't end up meaning a whole lot in the long run, but I'm honest enough to say that some choices almost immediately turn me off of the person in question. Sometimes it is because the name refers specifically to some kind of kink that I have no interest in, and in others it was because I thought the screen name was arrogant or condescending, or crude, or whatever. The more I get to know someone the more likely that their screen name isn't going to be that important. But, until and unless I get to that point, yes the screen name can matter.

Status: offline 		My screen name came about through a couple of avenues. I have been told my entire adult life that I'm twisted (humor, because of my kinks etc.)
I added the heart behind it because there are times when I put my heart out there too much and it gets twisted out of shape.
It's a new nic, I have 2 others that I use away from CM that describe me as well.

Status: offline 		You know Ron, after all these years I never put that together... maybe I need to stop sniffing the glue?

I chose puella (eons ago)because I liked the many facets... it literally means girl in latin, which I studied for some time, both in and out of the convent, and girl is commonly what a slave is referred to in a sort of general way, both in and out of Gorean circles (which is where I sort of came 'out').


But more subtly the word puella also referred to the time in a young Roman womans life when she was considered to most embody the feminine and thus was sort of ... thought to be most ripe and to be most desired to be taken by a man, both sexually and platonically. I love that it has this really neat sort of fluctuation between latent sexuality and the purity that was so desired in women taken as wives that time ... hehe I suppose those traits were a bit more appropriate at the time of my choosing the moniker!

I love hearing why people choose their names here!

Status: offline 		Carrie (not my real name...surprise surprise) has one meaning in particular..."Female ruler"...that I found appealing.  The O has nothing to do with The Story of O and more to do with something similar to "daddy-O" in a rockabilly sense. 
Does it define me?  No...just as my real name doesn't define me.  In fact, I've considered legally changing my name but I have no wish to break my mother's heart (she put such thought into my first and middle name).
CarrieO has become a scene name and a screen name.

It was meant to sound "Elvish" because I needed a name for an online game.
So Everden (EVE gaRDEN)was the 1st creation, then I changed it to Eivarden, just to sound better.

Even though it was meant to sound elvish, it was for a human "Holy Knight".

Also, I only play girl characters in online games. I only created this, because my friend was urging me to play a guy character, for dumb reasons.

The names I usually use as girls are; Claire, Trina, and Candi.

But they get girl names, because my characters are girls, where as a site like this, I'm a guy, so I use a guy name. (Plus no one ever takes Eivarden. Claire, Candi, and Trina are always taken, being common names.)



  Glad to see that I am not the only man playing women characters on-line (there are women who play online, right?).  Incidentally, I immediately thought you were named after the actress Eve Arden until I read your post. 

I chose my screen name optimistically when I joined, so I'm not sure that it accurately describes me as I am, but perhaps as I'd like to be.

Status: offline 		I picked my s/n years ago, originally from the 70's slang that means somebody who isn't just attractive but also a solid person. Additionally, I'm a bit of a sly foxy fox ;) Not quite feline, not quite canine...foxes have personality traits of both and I'm similar. A unique kinda creature.

Mine too, Youd be shocked how many people have no idea what Diurnal means.
The vampire part...well, pretty easy. DiurnalVampire has been my name online for years now.

VampiresLair is our couples name since that was what we were jokingly going to call our Southern Mansion when we get one (they have names after all)

And DVsFox is pretty self explanitory, I named him Fox when I collared him and using that name was better than using the name he had connected to all sorts of vanilla workings when trying to keep a low profile.

For me, a screenname says a lot about someone. They chose it, after all, which means there was something that goes into the process. Whether that is what was on your mind at the time or if it is something you put real thought into, I wonder at people with names like SlavePenis or PissOnMeNightly. Gives me a bad vibe about priorities right there.
