Termyn8or -> What if scammers had real brains ? (10/9/2009 11:05:53 PM)

I know I can't quote an email in here, but I can quote an excerpt. At least that is my understanding at this time.

So I get this "Your tender looks and the beautiful things i read attracted my attention and i must say that i am interested in you.
".

This is within a well written mail and was the dead giveaway, since I have no pic in my profile. And actually my looks are far from tender. I am not so sure my words in the profile are quite beautiful, but to some they may be. I do need to update that BTW. But the point is, would I need a minute to figure this out if that one mistake hadn't been made ?

The other mistake is that 'she' was new to the site, but had to leave soon so I needed to contact her on her regular email. That was seconds later, maybe I am just getting slow.

So, what if scammers had brains ? Not mentioning looks. Being willing to sit back and wait for the time for the sting, to be patient. To be willing to write more than two fucking emails to get two grand. To put some time and effort into it. If I were to do it I would make it seem everything was OK, but then later run the game. In other words, just reply in  the venue.

I guess the jist of this post is that scammers are not all that smart. This proves nothing one way or the other about how profitable it may be, but with a little bit of ambition they could probably do alot better. I could do better, I just refuse to do so.

Ever steal something ? Don't fucking lie to me , you have. Everybody has almost. Remember that uneasy feeling ? Some don't, others never forget. Thing is now it is expected. Everything is a scam almost, mortgages, cards, cable, gas, electric. You have to watch all these bills. Every time they get a chance they sneak more surcharges and the like on you.

But what if the mail was misdirected ? I could see it, click on one and start typing. At this point I am tempted to report it, but the way the page reads is that I make the judgement. It's like I do believe the death penalty is a good thing, but I also think that some really profound proof should be extant. I and I alone make this judgement ? If I am to do so I must take care.

We had threads on the Bible, let me put this out there : "Judge not lest ye be judged". This can mean many things, amongst which could be (with the added errors in translation) "Judge as you would be judged". Sounds more logical doesn't it ?

Enough on that. I was just thinking, what if I responded back saying that the only way to contact me is and will remain for some time, on CM ? All in all, the way I see it is that the need for immediacy to contact them on a regular email is the key. Regardless of that one giveaway, the email immediacy still exists. Why is it so important ?

Now while you can't quite get on CM from a library or school PC, you can almost anywhere else. CM is free and you sign in regardless of your ISP. Where is the urgency ? Now give me the excuse that you are living in a commune and can't let people see. Well what do you think they will see on regular email ?

But what if there was a team of really smart scammers who went in together, quit their day jobs and thought about it all day. Who couldn't they fool ? Especially if they have at least one computer geek in their midst. I just wonder how much money they could pull in. I mean these lame assholes must be making some money because they keep doing it. I think people who really know what they're doing could suck these suckers dry.

Yes, it's a song parody and yes, it's based on a Toto song and yes, it's that one.

The e-mails are flowing out tonight
As I write to tell you of my tragic situation
Writing complete nonsense for my plight
But you know I'm not thinking in my desperation
I've decided to be an old man today
Hoping for some of your kind words or better your stupidity
And I'm writing to you just to say
Hurry 'cos I got millions waiting here for you

CHORUS
I'm looking for a lot to take it all from you
Here in Lagos there's a hundred men or more writing too
I work on scams here in Africa
Gonna take some time to get the dollars I need so bad

More e-mails are sent out tonight
As I try to convince you that I'm the owner of some big oil company
I offer you ten million dollars hoping you'll bite
Just as the whole of Texas is found somewhere within the Serengeti
I try to convince you of my plight
Hoping that your Western Union cash will come

CHORUS

Hurry 'cos there's millions waiting here for you

CHORUS

I work on scams here in Africa
I work on scams here in Africa
I work on scams here in Africa
I work on scams here in Africa
So please send me dollars 'cos I need them real bad

It would not make any difference for me. If they ask me for money online, I look at it as a scam. Doesn't matter how smart they appear or that their reasoning is. I am not buying it.

Termy, that scares me too... we have not yet seen the second wave of scammers.  Right now, they simply post everywhere they can with laughably bad profiles and emails, simply betting that if one in a billion hits paydirt, they'll get their money.

FR, after read thru

There's a discussion in the field of criminology that argues that criminological techniques only catch the 'stupid criminals' & that there are some 'smart criminals' out there who get away with it, undetected. Like just about any discussion, it can be a controversial perspective . . .. .

The biggest problem, for me, with that theory is that many criminal behaviors, especially around the illicit gathering of money, are clear manifestations of 'laziness', 'stupidity', 'impatience', & other hallmarks of 'not-smart' . . . . . & that those who are inclined to 'hard work', 'intelligence', 'patience', 'tenacity', & so on, have much better options than criminal undertaking . .. . Which is all a fancy way of saying that, in general, criminal undertakings are the 'stupid choices' on life's menu . . . .. Criminality is one of the choice-spots where stupidity can congregate . . . ..

In that counter-model (to the idea of 'criminal masterminds'), increasing intelligence / smarts / etc will result in the individual moving to better non-criminal choices with their increasing talents, skills, etc, rather than becoming 'better criminals', on average . . . . .

& even when I'm willing to concede the possibility of 'criminal masterminds', I'm putting my cash bets on there being darn few of them . . .. . .

Just mostly for the fyi of it, Termy . .. .

all you need to know about scammers is summed up in the warning Collarme puts at the top of EVERY e-mail you open in big red bold letters:

DO NOT SEND MONEY TO OTHER USERS FOR ANY REASON!

what else is there to know?

LadyPact -> RE: What if scammers had real brains ? (10/10/2009 8:40:59 AM)

I actually started a thread on this not too long ago in the general section.  Here's the link to it http://www.collarchat.com/m_2766127/tm.htm .

Now, people thought this was mostly funny, so I didn't really get the in depth conversation that I wanted on the premise.  However, it's pretty much the same as the one here.  If someone, such as Myself, who has a good deal of knowledge of various things that fall under BDSM and power structure relationships would commit the time and dedication to doing it, I honestly believe the success rate would be pretty good.  Not only would I know the right things to say, I'm also smart enough to know who would make good targets for such a venture.  It really wouldn't be that difficult of a thing to pull off and I don't exactly consider Myself a brain trust.

I think people thought this idea coming from Me was a bit comical because I would never do such a thing.  But what if I did?  I could create another profile tomorrow specifically for the purpose of accomplishing the scamming goal and I bet I could do a pretty good job of it precisely because of the bit of knowledge that I have.  In fact, I'd probably create two.  One as a submissive female and the other as a Dominant.  That way, I could put the hook out from both sides.

If the scammers ever figure that out, there would be a lot more lonely people who's wallets were a little lighter.  All they would have to do is actually learn some things from this site.

Termyn8or -> RE: What if scammers had real brains ? (10/11/2009 11:22:49 AM)

Ve have our ways Irish.

Just so you know, the organization I work with is the largest on the planet. Pink Floyd "Animals" is our theme song, and I mean the entire album. We are in every nook and cranny of society. Our ranks run from the lowly beggar to the banker. Yes I knew some people who were going to start a bank, but in the end they decided to do something else and make more money. I shall not expound on that becuse of extant financial conditions. All I can say is that my best advice of two years ago is no good now so I will just shut the fuck up about it.

So I stick to what I know. For example in my estimation, I would say that you like to wear black or red underwear. If you want to know how I figure out things, ask about that. I warned you. If I am wrong, I consider you a player. That's cool, but I won't get fooled again. See right now I only figure you are as abnormal as anyone else, but to refute what I supposed here will alert me to the fact that you are more (or less) abnormal than everyone else, so I will act accordingly.

Excuse the aloofness here, I am listening to our theme song. The amp is cranked up and so is the bass. Yes the fan is on. As long as the fan is on there is almost no fire hazard. (mail me for details on that, but if you ever smelled an iron that got to hot, you know what I mean)

Scam you Irish ? Here goes. I'm working on building a gun into a laptop PC. I need money for research on how to turn the built in webcam into sights. With nice little crosshairs on the screen. All I need is about two grand to perfect the idea. Every black suit and jack booted thug will want one. I expect your thousand dollar check in the mail about next Friday. Between you and Rhi we can get this done !

And the shoephone (ala Maxwell Smart) is in the mail.

Having some fun on the weekend.
