Tired of over-used phrases and words at work?  Annoyed by people who cannot give you a direct answer? My personal pet peeve is using the term "issue" when clearly the situation has become a problem.

  • Circle back: "I have to go, but I will circle back with the client later."

yes i get tired of people using the samd cute phrases over and over and over..."at the end of the day" "cutting edge" etc etc etc....tese people watch too much television and dont read enough.

Ven, you know, I was thinking about that the other day and I bet certain, Italian and Irish,....."organizations" have the same problem!

"Disconnect" "If that fuckin' scumbag doesn't pay his vig on time next week I'm gonna "disconnect" his fuckin arms from his fuckin shoulders!"

"Circle Back" "When that bastard comes out of the bar have Sean and Kevin "circle back" behind him and hit him with the bat!"

"It is what it is" "It is what it fuckin is!" "You got a fuckin' *problem* with that?"

I let all our salesman, managers and others that don't speak human language...explain every word they say.
Especially when I notice they had a course..and all use the same word over and over.
They use so many words to say nothing.

lol I always forget the words they use.....because they hardly ad something.
But I love the list in the first post.

My peeviest-pet-peeve:  "impact" instead of "affect"

btw...when did 6 sigma folks get belts and such?  We learnt it back in the '80s and it weren't so fancy.

"Cost effective downsizing" were the buzzwords last week after the manager got back from a meeting,

Mumblings of  "Oh....shit"  was heard among the staff.

In my company, they have green belts and black belts.  The black belts are quite coveted and a small troupe of musicians follows each one around to play chimes and finger cymbals to announce their arrival into a department. [8|]

Hehe.

My pet peeve word is opportunity - as in "the death of the patient presents an opportunity for you". Seems more honest just to say " That patients death is a problem"

Not so much a buzzword as it is a phrase that I hate hearing...."that's the way we've always done it" ....I always say who gives a shit....maybe there is a better way!

"Challenges"  As in, "things are pretty fucked up now that the Six Sigma people have gone and we have challenges ahead of us to fix them again...."

lately my biggest pet peeve; and is more a phrase than a buzzword, but when people at work say "I need" I grit my teeth, clinch my fists and remember to breath in really deep, and let it go before responding...

This phrase never gets a please or a thank you after it.

I once went through Six Sigma training.  It's basically saying, "For God's sake, make sure you have some idea what the situation is before jumping in to change things.  Now here's a methodology to do it that's so cut and dried that a not terribly bright pigeon could do it."

I found it amazing that every single example was hypothetical.  No genuine success stories?
