I don't like how fet life has the "walls"... I don't want to sift through gobs of stuff to find out stuff - I've got facebook for that.  Also, I don't want to have to join a "group" to make a comment.  And I sure don't want to have to deal with all the nonsense chest beating and temper tantrums of "it's MY thread".  No thanks!

And the games are fun over here.

MsMillgrove -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 6:27:16 PM)

Oh it's apples and oranges. i love them both.

Sooner or later, everyone i know shows up on Fetlife. I can keep up with them. Also enjoy the coziness of the groups--where you get support and stay up on local news. i like a couple groups where no males can post. My SL affilliate groups also post there. Few Sl resident feel comfortable here cause their experiences are often dismissed as fantasies.

The plusses of CM are many --there's an opportunity to hear a wide range of differering opinions. ideas and experiences. Secondly when I arrived I knew No one .. and have since met 50 people maybe... many of whom are not in the local scene. In fact, my little monkey lived only five minutes from me, but I never would have known he existed if we hadn't met here. Even people who are active in L.A. activities--they'll be at a demo at one place on a Sat afternoon and I'll be at a different one at another spot. We never meet. There are people I met through CM that have actually been in the same room, same time .. and I never even saw them, let alone had a chance to talk. Ease of navigation and great search functions both at CM personals and in the forums.

So I am pleased to enjoy the best of both sites.

And yeah i hate the black background too, but I never get any junk mail either.

Fnordstrum -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 6:27:33 PM)

I don't see how anyone can dislike a black background... It's a white background that burns your eyes because it's so bright.

I mean, seriously. 0_o

In any case I wouldn't say that Collarme is necessarily 'better' or 'worse' than other sites in general (Although you could always do a comparison to any specific site where it would be both better and worse, in different aspects)... Mostly it's just that it's different...

One of the major problems that Collarme has, or at least, seems to have from what I gather from people saying, is that because it's so popular, it attracts a lot of scammers/spammers/ just annoying people in general, moreso than a less popular site might -- But then, I imagine the amount of that that's encountered by anyone depends on the person (For example, I don't really see any of that, don't get a million messages from people who didn't read my profile, etc. -- But that could also be simply because I'm not female, so who knows) -- Really though, that's pretty much the only bad thing people tend to say about it, for the most part. (And that's just from what I hear, again, I don't have any problems with the site myself)

Really though.. It seems a lot of people like to stick with just one site, for some reason.. Which seems a little silly, since there's no reason you can't go to more than one different site... It's not like you have to pick one, just do both, or all of them... And when they're different, use the different sites for different things.

Eh, I kind of want to reword this post, but I'm not immediately sure the best way in which I would do that, so, yeah... just posting it anyway.

Fnord.

I love Collarme. Even the spammers/scammers don't irritate me, especially since I'm not seeking.

Uggghhh....the walls on the other site. I hate the walls....seriously.

peppermint -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 6:40:49 PM)

I belong here and to other online BDSM sites.  I prefer Collarme to the rest because of the forums.  Everyone gets to read all the posts and participate in all the forums rather than have to join a group to do that.  The forums here ROCK!!!   It's difficult to figure out how to use the other sites.  Originally I loved the BDSM forums on CompuServe.  However, those forums died as people switched from dial up to high speed internet service.  These forums are nice and open just like the ones at CS were.

Also, the people on this forum also ROCK!!  They are people who live BDSM, not just talk about it online.  You can tell from the many thoughtful answers.

i like the people here. It doesn't matter how often I change my oceanwynds name, I am still greeted well. I read the threads to gain insight into myself. Yes at times the boards have gotten too crazy for me, but i back off a little and then come back. I have tried other sites, but this is where i am comfortable.

FR, after read thru

There are cures for the light-text-on-dark-background thing, there's a thread I started in the FetLife Formatting group . .. .

I agree that I like the way CollarChat concentrates the reading audience into a relatively few fora, & I find the FL format of many many many groups to be a relative pain . .. . .

I've found it of ongoing interest that at munches people exchange FetLife info . . .. That's the only online site I hear anyone ask about . . . .

But, above & beyond everything, FetLife has no 'reward' system for being a babble-mouth . .. . . Maybe I'll feel differently sometime in 2011, when I finally get my 'Condemned' stamp . . . . .

WyldHrt -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 8:48:22 PM)

What MsMillgrove and others have said. I have a Fet account, mostly because of the pic space they provide and to keep up with friends that are over there, but I MUCH prefer the forums and the folks here. I came here knowing one person (a friend who joined when I did), but was made to feel welcome in no time... once I found PRS, that is [:D]. In the last year, I've met dozens of folks from the boards, both online/ phone and real time, many of whom have become close friends. Even before that; when my marriage was imploding last fall, it was folks from the boards here who sent cmail, including things that made me laugh when I felt crappiest, and phone numbers/ offers to call whenever I needed to talk. One member (you know who you are) even came down from LA and helped me move, even though we had never met.

Really, what's a few easily blocked scammers compared to that? [:)]

LadyPact -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 8:49:21 PM)

Same here.  I know there are a number of CM folks who have moved over to Fet, but I don't care for the format.  I much prefer the ability to follow threads easier.

Plus, after being here a couple of years, I tend to like reading what a lot of the people who have been on this site for years have to say.  I'm familiar with the backgrounds they have from previous threads and I respect a lot of them.

CalifChick -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 9:58:33 PM)

Fet seems to be useful for keeping up with local groups.  Our group had a yahoo group, but it often had strange delays in delivering mail.  We've almost abandoned it, and gone with Fet.  Other than cmailing each other, or starting our own thread in PRS, there isn't really a way here to keep up with each other and our local events.

Easier for me to just paste what LadyPact said than type out a new post saying the same points.

NihilusZero -> RE: Collarme Troopers who remain (10/11/2009 11:06:29 PM)

When Fet began, the fad-ishness of it had a draw to certain sorts of folks (some which I knew from other social circles) and these sorts were the kind I was trying to stay away from at the time.

CM, when I started poking around and getting more familiar with it, struck me as the obscure indie band that's actually far more talented, musicianship-wise, than their musical counterparts that may be more superficially popular.

We pandas are too shy to openly claim credit for adorablenessness. And besides, we often tend to harbor secret parrot fetishes. we admire them for their unabashed verbosity.

I don't care how many times  you tweak the name.  Please keep the avatar because I love that picture.
