I was wondering why a professional domme would not show their face in their profile. I have seen some who have blurred out the face in their picture or will will only show from the neck down photos. I compleatly understand why a non professional domme, sub or switch would be more discrete but if someone is going to do this for monetary gain what are they hiding and why. It just seems strange to me.

Um... aside from what Greedy said, why don't you ask that particular pro dominant? Maybe she wants to preserve an air of mystery?

For me I have nothing to hide or worry about and I'm not ashamed of what I do. I do what I do because I enjoy it. I don't live my life for others and if somebody doesnt like what I do that is their problem/issue, not mine. I do not hide what I do! My feelings are if a person is worried about being "discovered" online by family, friends, etc ...1. maybe they shouldnt be online 2. I'd also wonder "why the particular person was on the site that they found me?" Mistress Farrah **

While I agree with your second statement, for the most part.. the first part I have an issue with. The reason for that is that someone may have children, for instance, and not want to risk CPS getting wind of their professional life. Or perhaps they are divorced, and not wanting to risk losing custody/visitation. There are many perfectly valid reasons for not wanting to post face pics on the web.

And even the ones who don't have mainstream career aspirations may have vanilla family or friends. If you and I meet face to face at a BDSM event or to play, either personally or professionally, well, then we know this much about one another. That's fine. Even if you work in my mainstream career field I really doubt you'll be talking, because you have as much to lose as I do. But I'd as soon not be recognized on the Internet where it's not reciprocal.

Maybe they don't want some random schmuck seeing their photos and stalking them because he thinks Pro Domme = will-do-anything-for-money. If I went pro, that would be high on my list of concerns.

And then someone in my family, who was on this site, got angry with me. She's a bit of a nut job, and we all know that... but she showed my profile (after deleting her own) to one of my family members. I've never been terribly shy about what I do, but I sure didn't want certain people to see what I wrote. Not out of shame, but because it was none of their business. Yes, I knew it was a risk, but it never occurred to me that someone could be that hate filled or mean spirited. FR, after read thru & some people are just more private than others, in general. Those ones don't need a reason to withhold personal details, that's their default setting . . . . . ETA: Also, I could see how control of the details of one's self could be an expression of self-discipline & / or power on either side of the play . . .

There are a few Pro Dom/mes who have other employment out side of professional dominantion which could possibly be effected if their pro side was ever to be exposed. I can see why someone wouldnt want to put their face picture on a site such as this, but if they didnt have a personal website with their face on despite using on line advertising i would probably question it too. I am aware of one PD in the UK who doesnt use face pics, even on her own website but shes a legit Mistress and comes very highly recommended she maintians its for her discretion and she is entitiled to that as is her family.

It just seems strange to me. I suspect it's a marketing decision, plain and simple. Though who think their looks will attract paying customers put up pictures. The rest resort to other hooks for trying to sell themselves. It's not that much different from selling anything else, except that in this instance the seller and the commodity are one and the same.

It's one thing to humiliate and demean someone consensually because it's a kink you are sharing. But if you are in a profession where you have real contempt for your clients, and contempt for yourself for being there with them, and you don't actually like them or what you do together much, you've got the wrong job. Find another.

I've never heard the term "johns" used to describe pro domme clients. I didn't realise that 'john' was considered rude. I just laughed when I saw that word. I'm not sure that it's in use in the UK, though.

It would be interesting to track the origin of "john" as a term for a prostitute's customer. John is one of the most common male names in the English-speaking world, so I always assumed "john" was just a generic reference to a male. That doesn't seem derogatory. In the States, "john" is also used frequently to refer to the loo or restroom. That would seem an unfortunate connection, but it's probably accidental. A man who pays for sexual services is generally seen as a loser, so I suspect any term would quickly acquire negative connotations, even if it didn't have them originally.

Better than Crapper, I suppose.... I have an idea, they could just ask for a gift and disappear without any face to put to a picture. Most try to take the conversation off the site.
