hlen, the main problem is that DHS *still* has only 4,000 ICE Agents for the whole freaking country!
I mean what the hell is going on with that?! And they talk about "bad management" in GM, AIG and the like?
This kind of bad management could get a lot of people killed!
I mean why aren't there 100,000 ICE Agents? And that number may be low!
The next time I contact my congressman and senators offices I'll certainly bring this up!

I agree! I think that so much of what DHS has done is window dressing.  I wonder how many established departments that supposedly got beefed up have actually grown or even maintained their numbers?

DHS was formed by taking people from existing branches of the government and reassigning them to DHS.  For those who don;t understand how bureaucracies work, that means that all federal agencies were given the chance to get rid of their deadwood by reassignment.

The major accomplishment of DHS was to assign colors to threat levels.  Then after they announced the color, they'd remind you what threat level that corresponded to.

These tracking systems work only for people (amateurs) who stay for work or other reasons. Terrorists, spies, assassins and other professionals are largely immune. They have resources available to vanish, change identity and so on. So, these measures are basically good for only restricting illegal immigration.

Actually, the measures are only good for creating the illusion of increased safety.
