FangsNfeet -> War of the Worlds questons? (3/5/2006 6:28:37 AM)

So I've finally watched the movie. In War of the Worlds, the movie suggest that the aliens were already on earth to burry there machiens. If that's the case, why didn't they die the first go around?

Also, with all that advanced technology, wouldn't the aliens have space suits and testing equipment to make sure that earths envirnonment was truly suitable for them?

mistoferin -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/5/2006 6:57:16 AM)

ummmm....Fangs....it's Hollywood. I thought alot of the movie didn't make much sense. I was expecting a high tech remake of the old War of the Worlds and was sadly disappointed. Quite honestly, it was certainly not among the best of movies I have watched this year.

I had the displeasure of sitting thru every painful moment of that movie on a *date*. I expected what erin did, was sorely disappointed.
And Dakota Fanning's role, she probably actually spoke 30 words, the rest was just shreiking and screaming. It was the most ridiculous and irritating movie I saw last year.

I LOVED the movie. Saw it twice. The answers to your questions are obvious, if you simply bring your own life=experience to the table lol.

Number one, in the Connecticut farmhouse basement, they crawled to a broken water main, and greedily slurped water. Fang, if you were an alien, would YOU do this? If you were an alien in MEXICO CITY, would YOU do this? I think not.
Number two, whats this deal with the saucers? They blow this industrial 5oclock horn to attract everyones attention, then, when we're all looking, they expel copious quantities of red diaheria into the environment. This is clearly adolescent behavior.

And ya cant live like that Hoss, I dont care what yer momma was, when you shitte in the street and drink dirty water, somethings gonna gitcha.

These were, of course, adolescent aliens. These were the fighting forces of the alien nation.

The guys who buried the machines were older, and wiser. Engineers and scientists. They were more hygienic, for sure.

And probably listened to better music, as well.

"Hope this helps" lol lol

Yes... it's Hollywood & it was in the script.

I too was terribly disappointed in this movie.

The X rated take-off of the movie is much more fun to watch.

I prefered the original myself.

And if the kids in this movie were mine... there would be no alien to be afraid of as much as MOM... lol

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/5/2006 9:59:56 AM)

You should read the original book.

The idea is that while the aliens were "here" before, they simply crash landed and went into some sort of stasis and thus were not affected. That's the best explanation I've heard anyway.

They leave out explaining exactly WHAT it was that killed them- so it could have been some new chemical that was invented, some particular genetic quirk, anything really. You can't test for things you don't know to test for.

SirKenin -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/5/2006 11:32:23 AM)

I thought I was bad for watching movies and tearing them apart. I can not even watch some, because all I can picture is the lighting and the directors yelling and spoiled brat actors and acresses stomping across the stage. hehe.

Buttttttt.. The idea is that you are just supposed to watch it and enjoy it.. Have fun with it.. Not pick apart every little detail. Who cares why they die? They drink water. They die. The end. Three jeers for the good guys.

My rule of thumb is as follows:

If the movie has Tom Cruise in it... prepare for the movie to suck.

I have seen few Tom Cruise movies that I have liked and not one that can prove to me that he can act his way out of a wet paper bag. There are actors that I am convinced that can do anything and make it interesting if not captivating. Cruise isn't one of them.

Growing up, I remember watching the TV series. The aliens that were smart enough to put themselves into hybernation after loosing the war, re emerged to discover that they can use humans as a host in order to survive. The series starts off modern day time followed by a series of events that jumped to a future of waste/poverty on a global scale. It was one of the big starts for Adrian Paul before he played Duncan McCloud in the Highlander series.

FNF;

I am so glad you mentioned the series. I liked it ALOT. The first few seasons were really great, but then the Mancusos or whoever took it over and screwed it all up with the "Second Wave".

Special effects sucked by today's standards, but that was a bit simpler time. I thought it was well written for the first few seasons. I have a bunch of them on tape (some beta !) and I'm pretty sure I have the first episode. Problem is the beginning is cut off, just a few minutes, but it's there enough.

I wouldn't mind just watching the original. Did they remake The Day The Earth Stood Still yet ? I bet that'll suck too. I'm looking for the real original version of that bigtime. In the second version they cut out where the Woman wanted to go home with Klatoo, in the third version they also removed the part where Klatoo tells them "Then there will simply be no Rusia" after their delegate said that Russia would never agree to it.

I am 45 and I can't recall ever seeing the first version, my Father told me about it. The second version I have seen, but a long time ago, VCRs were very uncommon then. Now I got it recorded, but it is the third version.

I really hate "new and improved" Hollywood style. I saw the original Gone in 60 Seconds, the one the guy almost got killed making. I have absolutely no interest in the remake. I like the character of the movie. I even like the crappy non-digitally colorplexed look of it, hell I could watch it in black and white.

What's next, a remake of Repo Man ? (if you haven't seen it, do get it before they remake it). This wasn't a B movie, I'd say an E or an F. Loved it.

If this trend continues, there might be remakes of Pink Flamingo and Eating Raoul. Look soon for remakes of I Come In Peace, Harware and who knows what else. Next they might scour TV shops for old VCR tapes to get more ideas. Perhaps they'll start remaking movies of people's home movies, baby's first steps etc. Actually I did alot of recording with my first few camcorders, some of that footage is better than some of what they charge good money for.

If they ever do, I may swear off movies for good.

You don't make good movies better, you make bad movies better.

Hollywood should be called what it is... an industry that is floundering for ideas. The new ideas are decent enough but the remakes are mostly crap.

Evanesce -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/5/2006 2:49:54 PM)

I went to see the movie expecting to be bored out of my mind. However, the special effects alone were worth the price of my ticket. And, while Tom Cruise is certainly not on my list of "must see" actors, I thought he did a decent enough job with what he was given.

Agree! and the movie SUCKED huge

HalloweenWhite -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/8/2006 8:17:23 AM)

The reason they didnt die was cos they stayed away from human beings to bury the machines, the other thing you mentioned was:

A:they were -so- advanced theyd irradicated all illness and so shot thier imune system, also, if they do die at the end of the movie, they win, we lose. What the hell kind of a hollywood movie would that be. My point is:they died for dramatic purposes.

IronBear -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/8/2006 8:38:38 AM)

Perhaps watching the original move or the movie "The Night Which Stopped America" where the recreated the Radio drams hosrted and narated by Orson wells and where people thought it was an invasion. No remakes can best that.....

RosaB -> RE: War of the Worlds questons? (3/8/2006 11:27:33 AM)

Saw the movie, it's just one big blurr in my mind. Must say, I'm glad I didn't pay for the ticket. I do recall thinking, damn, I could have had a V8.
