ORIGINAL: MistressTaboo For me it's kind of like once you are over 30 you don't have 'boyfriends' you have partners or whatever. Anyone have any thing else to call these darlings? i have never understood the fixation with the term in all honesty and i generally find it insulting. i have been known to correct men who call me "girl" as some weird way of expressing that i'm submissive. aside from the usual cringe or frown that it elicits, i feel it negates my person. if this individual encountered me in non lifestyle settings he would probably address me as ma'am. just because i'm on the kneel doesn't imply courtesy should dissipate. i'm not His girl after all. my Owner will remind me of my station. i don't feel it is a stranger's right nor responsibility to do so. mini rant aside, i think the names you select should speak for your relationship. qualities, characteristics, quirky attributes you've noticed in them are always fodder for such. i don't think it has to be rushed either. whenever i give someone a name it is a term of endearment that is personal. i don't pluck something from the sky because it has no meaning for either party. that is what's most important. they should feel something internally when you call them by name, whatever that is. for my own purposes i keep it simple. i can have an Owner, Love, Master, Sir, Partner, Compass, Maestro, etc. but i only have one Keeper. that's the one i never ever give out. the rest are up for grabs. porcelaine
