There are a lot of things this could be. You could be having hardware problems. Buss clock failure (motherboard), ram issues. The program that is reporting the usage could be messed up. You could have dropped dll files from the windows system ini folder or the system 32 files.. Start by opening your program manager and shutting programs down see it lowers your processor usage. If so turn some of the programs that run on system setup off. If not reinstall windows. . if that doesn’t work find a repair person or shop to take it to. you got hard ware issues.. Hope this helps.. How many processes does your task manager say you're running? And when's the last time you did a spyware scan? If you're using Windows, I would strongly recommend you go to Microsoft and download Windows Defender (it's right on the main page... you can't miss it), run the scan, and take the recommended actions.

Evance it's usualy about 40 processes, which on a normal day this thing does lickety split no problem. I did a scan last week I am doing one now. I shut all my programs off during load up and when I re opend earthlink BAM back to 100 percent, so I think it's earthlink doing it, which I don't know why it never did before.[:@]

May also depend on the age of your computer and the size of your ram....... It sounds like you have programs running in the background which will take up virtual memory. Last resort, back uip all files you need and reformat the hard drive several times to scrub nearly all the stuff off and than re load programsn I'd install a couple of antu spyware programs and have them run twice daily along with an anti virus scan....

Go to your task mananger and select the processes tab (ctrl shift esc)
Benear the tabs you will see a bar that says Image Name | User Name | CPU | Mem Usage

Click on CPU twice (so that the highest number is on top) and then you can see what process is using up all your CPU.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: PC stuck at 100 percent CONSTANTLY for 3 days now (3/5/2006 11:49:34 PM)

Mod one I did and it says CPU Usage then a graph with a huge spike meduim and so on in size. but nothing about what program is making it spike so high.

ModeratorOne -> RE: PC stuck at 100 percent CONSTANTLY for 3 days now (3/5/2006 11:52:37 PM)

hit ctrl shift esc

what do you see?

FelinePersuasion -> RE: PC stuck at 100 percent CONSTANTLY for 3 days now (3/6/2006 12:13:55 AM)

I see, applications processes perfomance netweoking users, under it says CPU USage, CPU histoey PF usage and then total and stuff and when I double click CPU useage and history only come up with a graft with spikes all over it.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: PC stuck at 100 percent CONSTANTLY for 3 days now (3/6/2006 12:34:57 AM)

Well, feline, sissy is not too sure why this is happening, but if you take your PC in both hands, turn it upside down, and shake it from side to side a few times, that will probably clear your problem! Good luck.

I imagine there are quite a few folks here that treatment will fix quite well. Sadly, computers tend to be passive-aggressive.

Have you checked for spyware?

siamsa24 -> RE: PC stuck at 100 percent CONSTANTLY for 3 days now (3/12/2006 6:09:20 PM)

And which virus scan do you use? I had McAfee for the longest time and recently got rid of it because it missed a HUGE string of viruses that turned my computer to toast. It was 100% updated and nothing seemed to be wrong with it, but I installed Nortan and BAM! it found all of them. I had to reformat in order to get rid of them though. Sometimes that's the best option.

But it does sound like spyware (and having 40 applications running at once doesn't sound normal to me, mine only runs between 15 and 20, although mine may be unusual)

Nope! Mod11 is smarter and better looking.
