Hello i wanted to ask some advice on what size cages to buy.  Doggy crates seem to be the most economical way to go and they are great because it is portable.  i like the idea of a small tiny cage, but realize theres some danger in that so i wanted to ask what would be safe dimensions for someone who is 5'8 and a little on the thin side.  Love the idea of being locked up for long periods of time, but not at the expense of a limb! lol

The bigger the better if you're going to be in it for any length of time. The more comfortable you are in it, the longer you can remain. And get a pad.

I couldn't agree more with this. Of course if it is big enough you could add a portaloo and a few other things as well as the dogs and cats for company.

Rule of thumb in my opinion. Small restrictive cages are great for a short time and the bigger the better for lengthy periods like all nighters.

Personally I favour custom wrought iron circular cages which can be suspended. I like leaving enough room between the bars so the incumbent slave can sit with legs hanging out between bars.

I agree with the comments above. The length of the cage should allow for your legs to be fully extended. This cage would do the trick without getting too big.

It's also useful to keep in mind that the diagonal measurement is the key, not the length or the width. If you're, say 5'5" (64 inches) and the cage is 60 by 30 inches, you'll still be able to stretch out completely because the corner-to-corner measurement is about 67 or 68 inches. Also keep in mind that for intermediate or even relatively lengthy periods of confinement, it's not entirely necessary to stretch out your full length all at once. Being confined in a cage that's a little shorter than you makes for an interesting type of predicament bondage - you can straighten your knees and your back at the same time, as long as you remain bent at the waist. Or, you can straighten your waist and your knees, but can't quite straighten your upper back. And so on. You ave to constantly keep shifting your position to remain comfortable, and even then you can never be fully comfortable at any given time.

For how long at a time do you want to occupy the cage?

Based upon that, some considerations are:

what positions and how much movement will the cage allow,

how much pressure or strain will that put on muscles and joints,

will the person's weight be resting against the bars,

will any of that restrict circulation or breathing or press on nerves, causing possible nerve damage, muscle strain or cramping, or harm to joints and tendons,

how much discomfort is desirable and bearable,

will the cage allow access for whatever type of scene you have in mind,
and
practicalities such as how the caged person will drink, eat, relieve themselves.

Oh, and storage!  Does it need to be collapsible?  How much room do you have for it to stand, when in use?

Your post makes me think of two things:

If you make the cage big enough that the occupant can't fully extend their legs, but can extend them enough for their knees to be bent at a little more than a right angle, similar to the bend of the knees when sitting in a chair, then a person without special health issues can endure it for a few hours.  I'm thinking of a website that had a male in a cage that size on webcam for long periods of time.

But hyperflexion of the joints might not be sustainable for even a short period of time, especially if you're putting weight on the joints.  I'm thinking of a woman who appeared in a little sketch at a leather event.  She was very petite and was fit, physically.  They carried her onstage hidden in a large garbage can, her knees bent up to her chest, in a tight fetal position.  She staid in there for a few minutes, before she was to come up out of the can.  When they went to lift her out, her knees were severely swollen and she was in great pain.  She had long-lasting injury from it (wasn't clear to me whether it was her joints or her tendons, or both).

I don't have the time now, but there are several (I think) articles on the web regarding the physical and mental experiences POWs had when locked in metal boxes 4'x4' during WW2 by Japanese Military. It is probably worthy of the time spent finding similar to get a broader picture of what can happen especially when cramp sets in.

Depends how long you think you might be locked in the cage. It wouldn't be great for you to be locked up in a tiny cage for many hours or a day or two. Maybe buy a big sturdy one and a small portable one too. How about something the size of the one in the pic on our whatsnew page? It's not portable but you can't get out of it.

I personally would never consider anything that has the term of doggy attached to it. If one desires a cage, there are many people who design them. Yes it is not cheap, but there are many that have multiple uses. I would desire a cage to be at least 6 feet, one that can be used in a vertical as well as a horizonal position and that can be broken down, padded and has restraint options

Now, if the cage is too big...

Is it half empty, or half full?
