Halloween Candy (Full Version)

Soooo I've moved into a townhouse development with about 130 units within a half mile span of road.
I used to live on four secluded acres set way back from the road and only got one trick or treater in 14 years while there (he got the motherload, btw).
I have no clue what to expect so I bought a ton of Halloween candy to give out. The good stuff too.
Snickers. M&M's. Twix. Smarties. Skittles. Etc. Etc. Etc.
None of that Dots crap at my house. Plus I'm the only townhouse in the development that has decorated and has lights.

Do you like giving out Halloween candy and what kind do you give out? Or do you turn out the lights and pretend that you're not home?
Plus...do you buy your favorite or do you buy what you don't like so that you're not tempted to eat it yourself?

I just grab a few bags of whatever is handy at the store. I try to avoid candy that I like to limit the temptation to eat it myself and I dump it on the last few trick or treaters to get rid of what I have left. The lights are only off if I am not home. I would never stiff trick or treaters by pretending to not be home.

I love those damned Dots.

This is the first time that I'll decorate for Halloween, but we've always had plenty of candy on hand for any kids that showed up. I usually just get several bags of the mini candy bars, maybe a bag or two of bubble gum.

The kids have smartened up in our area.  Nobody trick-or-treats at apartments, townhomes, condos, etc.  They go to neighborhoods with nice houses and nice cars so they get the good candy.  That's the thinking, anyway.

it's always hit or miss around here.  one year we could get overrun, the next year we could be giving out handfuls to each kid.  I err on the side of less candy now, just so I'm not stuck with bunches. 

nearby to me is the city of Toluca Lake, home to many celebrities...and they tend to give out full-size candy bars.  maybe once that secret got out the hoards started going there instead!

I dress up as Beldar Conehead and hand out 6-packs of beer and cartons of cigarettes.

I live a quarter mile off the road. Never had a trick or treater. I would take the kids into town to a townhouse development.  I picked the one just down the block from Night of 100 Pumpkins and only two blocks from where the big town parade ends up at the firehouse. When you make it to the fire house you get a full size Hershey bar and an apple. After enough candy, the kids were grateful for an apple to clear their throats.

Nah, I don't get any trick or treaters, but I do stock up on Halloween candy when it's on sale (moreso right after Halloween), just to have a candy bowl around all the time for me (and anyone I have over)

[sm=threadhijack.gif] Off topic but can I ask WHY you left four secluded acres to move into the middle of a 130-unit townhouse development?????[sm=confused.gif] When I moved to Master's house, it's in town and I would give most anything for us to live on four secluded acres like I did in WV (38 acres actually). Divorce. It was important to us that the house we built ourselves wasn't sold. It was too large for me to maintain so he stayed in it and bought me a townhouse ten minutes away that I could maintain.

I live on 35 acres and would kill to live in a 3 bedroom townhouse where somebody else shovels snow and mows the grass. I'm getting too old for this.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just crave the privacy and seclusion I grew up with in WV. Nosy neighbors make it worse. 35 acres of isolation sounds heavenly but, shoveling snow...no thanks[8D]

It's funny because I thought I'd have privacy issues here. Turns out that all of my neighbors are antisocial.
I'm the only one that ever uses my back deck. It's kind of strange...

We always decorated for Halloween.  Had cobwebs in the bushes, witches everywhere, and a spider we could drop down on the kids to scare them.  We'd give out the big full sized candy bars to the kids. 

I now live in an over 55 RV park during Halloween.  We have nothing up but some ligthts we got a Spencer's Gifts that look like mini cauldrons with fire.  Last year we got a couple trick or treaters but it didn't seem right as their parent's car stopped in front of the place, the kids came to the door, then went back to the car.  At this time of the year there are only units being occupied so it's not worth it for the kids to walk.  We got a bag of candy, just in case we get more this year.  I think we're going to go across the street to the gay bar to see the guys dressed up in drag.

In the 15 years i have lived here there has not been one trick-or-treater (unless you count the half-tanked tractor driver that somehow got his belt loop hooked onto the seat and drove up and down the road screaming "Heeeeelp!!!! The JohnDeere is eating my ass!!!!!!")


and no...i am not kidding.

Quick hijack and then I'll get to the candy [;)]

Due to my divorce I left a house on just 1/2 an acre up in the foothills and live in an apartment.  Um...well...my cat locked me out - I was on the patio enjoying a glass of wine with a girlfriend and the little guy pawed at the door enough so that he flicked the latch down into the locked position.  We climbed out of the patio and after several calls for help (property manager, sister who had - but apparently lost - the spare key, etc.) I crashed through my bedroom window with a shovel.  Not ONE person noticed or said anything if they did.  In broad daylight.  Talk about hermits, lol.

As for candy, I don't get trick-or-treaters here. But a couple of years ago I was house-sitting for my aunt & uncle and OMG I lost count after about 200 kids.  It was CRAZY and hilarious and fun.  And yeah, I bought the good stuff - all my favorite things.  Pounds and pounds of it.  And I didn't give kids just one - I gave them handfuls.  It was awesome. [:)]

i can honestly say that i've never done it in all the years i've lived on my own. our neighborhood has become more residential over the time, but it is first and foremost a climate for business. the children that reside here patronize these places and come home bearing lots of treats. the door to door knocking doesn't take place.
