We've covered other examples of the non-profit sector and the design world crossing paths:

'Other examples' indicates that this article is about a non profit item.  I can't check on the truth of this, as the other links are broken.  But the article insinuates this is the case.

The link I posted in the bit about “non profits take note” works, if you want to look.

I was under the impression that the site the article is posted on is different than the co. making the bedding, and that it was the site that had covered other examples.

I could be wrong.

It is - it's a site reporting on the item and company that they are not affiliated with.  But they state 'other examples of non profit' leads one to the conclusion that these duvets are made for non profit.

At 30% gross profit given to centrepoint and the cover coming in at around £30 - taking into account materials and being made (its non child labour) as well as shipping, knowing mark ups as they are, I doubt that there is any self profit made.

So based on the assumption this is an item highlighting homelessness and they aren't making a profit - I don't feel it's degrading.  And I have slept in a box.

Could get confusing for those people that buy bed sheets to match the curtains or visa versa.

How do you orientate yourself around a bedroom with pavement running up the wall?

Oh, yes. I was thinking "duvet design" was a division of Dutch by Design, not the product line.. doh!!

Could be the design just reminds me too much of work. I deal with cardboard all night long... not my favorite part of the job.

So... would the dolls be too much, or might they too be benificial toward awareness? As I agree awareness is a worthy goal. (can't have liberty without truth)

It's all subjective and personal taste I guess.  I wouldn't buy one, but if it had the backing of a specific organisation, then sure, it wouldn't bother me.  I am totally of the belief that if you are going to do something to raise awareness, you need the backing of relevant peeps.  Otherwise it's more a selfish endeavour ('ooo look what I/we do for charity') which I wouldn't dig.

Interestingly, I think that is how the bedding came across to me. The whole "you can sleep under cardboard so a homeless person doesn't have to" phrase is delusional... yeah, that ain't cardboard.

That and the realization, the system that allows some to be able to purchase such things is the same that causes others to be homeless.

I think if I were making the dolls I would want them to be free; just simple awareness.

It strikes me as a form of tourism. Repulsive.

i am a believer of raising the awareness of the homeless and offering support whenever and however we can, but i do not that awareness in my bedroom.
