Lady Pact, thank you SO much! I can send you my intended run schedule if you'd like and maybe set up when we can run into one another (not to mention what it would mean to me to have your support when I run) and I'd be honored to have any of Mr.P's or your Clip's boots up for my practice pieces. If they have any friends who might have an old set that'd be nice as well. I asked my family serving but they kept their one set of black issues that they had from boot camp prior to the switch to the new issue.

Getting to know Sir Top and slaveBonnie has been awesome. I really do hope you can make it to BL sometime I think you'd be as happy with BL as anyone has been with Thunder.

I actually have extra supplies on order right now but have a little joy for Clip and you...Hubbard's conditioner is a beeswax base without anything in the way of toxic chemical additives. Which means the conditioner can be applied with the tongue and ingested or used as lube when in a pinch. I can get you a decent sized container for less than $10.

If nothing else, I can always look around here and see what the Army/Navy second hand stores have.  I keep thinking that clip mentioned at one time or another that he still has some.  I'll point him to this thread so he can let you know.

Status: offline 		Assuming you are competent at leather care, which from that mention of mink oil I doubt, then I would suggest you contact your local tack shops. Charge for your services. Lots of people with show boots will want them professionally done before and after show season. Helps if you can expand your leather care to tack also, plus repairs.

the air force is still using the old(good) black boots if theres a air base near you check the pawn shops near by or if you have someone with access to the bases themselves theres always a thrift shop on base with boots in it. I'm not sure if i have any black boots in my stuff i haven't been home in awhile ill check when i get home.
i know you will do well in the competition.

Status: offline 		Clip, thank you for the suggestion. I think the closest Air base is about 3 or 4 hours from me in Avon Park between Orlando and Tampa, whereas I'm located just south of West Palm. What I'll do is ask individuals who travel between the two if they wouldn't mind taking a detour one day, or on one of my trips there.

I appreciate your willingness to look into your resources. It means a lot to me.

Status: offline 		There are a lot of free events, and even the ones that do involve money (ie. playparties and classes) are often sliding-scale or free if you volunteer. The playspace usually has a mortgage or lease, electricity/water/etc., and so forth. There is a local group that does private playparties in various homes, and it is free, but everyone brings food to share. I love that particular group, and it is very low-key and sociable. We had a really fun poolparty last time, in addition to playing.

Have you ever considered the fact that the events have to cover costs?  Do you think those spaces to hold events come for free?  Even when held in people's homes, aren't there increased electric/water bills, garbage removal, and so on?

I've presented in a number of states.  I'm not only doing that out of the goodness of My heart. 

The least I can ask, after hours of putting together hand outs, driving for hours in My own car, and working My ass off to come to a distant community, is at least the group compensating My gas costs, a decent meal, and a place to sleep for the night.  If asking you to pay ten dollars at the door to defray that cost is too much for you, that is your problem.  I can promise you that I've put a hell of a lot more into that presentation than you have by opening your wallet and coughing up a sawbuck.

No worries.  Just trying to let you know that there's another side.

Also, even if you don't want to spend the money, you can always volunteer your time at events.  A lot of groups will either give you a discount or free admittance if you are willing to be part of the set up, break down, or clean up crew.
