So, I recently went to London Expo and was intrigued by the amount of girls I saw wearing cat ears. And the amount of stalls selling said cat ears. Now, clearly, given the nature of the event, a lot of these girls were cosplay as specific characters from specific shows/comics/books/etc... but it got me thinking. How popular is kitty-play in the kink scene in comparison to other types of animal-play, such as puppy or pony?

In my experience, it seems that while kitty-play certainly has a following as a fetish or kink, it doesn't seem nearly as prolific or accepted as puppy-play as a form of kinky interaction and I was wondering why that was. Having never taken part in kitty-play, I can only guess, but I would assume that it is due to there being less you can actually *do* with a human kitty than with a human puppy?

I would really like to hear from anyone who enjoys kitty play about what sort of things they like to do during this kind of play.

I am also curious as to whether kitty and puppy-play are as gendered as they seem. In my observation, it seems that puppy-play is a more male-centric kink, and often even a gay male-centric kink. Kitty-play, on the other hand, seems a lot more female-centric. I was wondering if this image is really true, and these types of play really *are* very gendered (and if so, why?), or if there was a more equal balance of female puppies and male kitties than I have observed.

Mmmm.

Kitty/Kitten-play does normally have a greater leaning towards females than males (although I recently saw a male's profile whose username indicated a feline orientation).

Considering how uncommon it is, I'll be providing just my own take:

The primary basics just revolve around tactile cat-like interactions: petting, nuzzling, purring, meowing and general movements that have a very similar mimicry to the lithe motions of cats (during stretching, for instance). To me, there is a big difference between people who would enjoying playing the "role" and those who just have very natural feline tendencies in the first place. Some people, when into a more raw and emotive state, gravitate towards such actions...for instance, the predisposition to paw and mew/whimper during extreme arousal or extreme emotional situations.

For me, I tend to purr when having my hair played with. I've been prone to growl at certain predatory moments.

As far as acts and accessorizing, that's variable to the people. Kitten ears and tails are normally the primary toys (although I can give or take the ears, as the natural feline tendencies will create more of a visual than those would). Paw-like hand or foot accessories can also be used. Acts range from just general playfulness (pounce-play...think of the ways you normally have fun with cats) and more D/s-ish type acts...like having them bound and lapping up drink from a bowl.

There is one main site that seems dedicated to it, started by a young lady. But it's very minimal and self-created (as in, the site design is obviously not made for wide exposure)...but the lady who runs it is quite cute and certainly embodies characteristics I would be drawn to in that respect:

The other reason cat play is less common in a d/s relationship is that you can't train a cat. Cats don't come over when called, they don't roll over on command to have their tummies rubbed, they don't beg for treats. Cats do what they want and they don't get told "bad cat" when they do it. In other words, cats are not submissive.

well i for one was named kitten for acting like a kitten, i automatically purr like being pet, scratched behind my ears and under the chin, theres alot of things about my personality that show i am into kitten play almost 24/7

Dogs can be trained out of those behaviors. If your dog pulls on the leash (as regrettably mine does) it means you need to spend more time training him to good leash behavior. I don't simply because I live up a dirt road, and have tons of acreage so he doesn't need to be on the leash. I have with a previous dog and it just meant I needed to spend more time working on it.

In general dogs are much more motivated to be people pleasers than cats are.

Yes (although that's variable to how people are pleased...), but we're talking humans with feline traits, not bestiality.

Ah, sorry. Was being facetious.

It interests me, I'm quite feline by nature. I got a kitten a couple of weeks ago and she is adorable, sweet, affectionate, contrite when she's naughty, loves strokes and being rubbed, curling up on my lap or at my feet, loves playfighting and when she got her collar with cute little bell I was inordinately jealous of her. Fortunately kittens have very small necks, so I couldn't steal it from her, I doubt she's grateful though, she hates it... strange thing. I'm also sure stealing from kittens is frowned upon, much like taking candy from babies.

My kitten does all those things and more, Celeste. I think she may be a dog in disguise because one of her favorite games is playing fetch. Plus she is a total suck who loves to cuddle.

Maybe it's because I'm submissive, maybe it's because I'm a girl, but to me puppies and ponies aren't sexy. I can kind of understand the kitten thing though.

My housemate's cat is a total Domme though, she rules his life. And definitely only comes when she wants to.

I love playing the role of a kitten. I don't have the ears or tail (yet), but I've done other things. The gentle lapping from a bowl, the innocent mewl when I'm dragged to the floor by my hair (i.e. 'scruff'), and how eagerly I thrust my backside up for some lovin'! When Master scrubs my back in the shower I arch it and god, if I could purr, I would! Nothing like a good de-fleshing in a hot stream of water.

Another thing we do is the damned squirt bottle. Now, I have a natural and negative disposition toward that most terrible creation, but it adds to the element of kitten play. If I am especially fussy one day then nothing moves my ass quite like a squirt of water to the face (AND IT IS COLLLLDDDD).

I am a cat person. I see them come in all shapes- sassy, sweet, hyper, etc. I own four and all with different personalities. Two I walk on leashes! They come when I call, they lie in the sunlight with me, and they all know the command 'sit' (two of them know 'up' and one almost learned 'roll over'). I do, however, admit to also enjoying puppy play! Whatever the mood is, I suppose.

I don't know why more ladies gravitate toward kitten play. Maybe it's a little more 'sensual' and personal? I don't know and I am totally talking out of my ass. I find plenty to do whether I'm a pup or a pussycat. Nothing like plopping a mousie toy in Master's lap for me to play with!

Oh goodness, cats will submit. If there is a more domy cat in the house.
They submit to humans too, by rolling to show their tummies just like dogs. That's pretty universal in critter-speak.

i cannot say if it's just females that go for the purrs and laptime, but i bet a lot of men see the appeal.

I've worn kitty ears and whiskers a couple of times, but mostly I just behave like a cat. I bat at flogger strands or boot/shoelaces, sometimes purr or growl, arch my back/butt into a scritch or stroke, sometimes bite and scratch and playfight, curl up in the seat of armchairs instead of sitting in them, and pounce people. Doing kitty play isn't about *real* cats, it's just exploring my more primal/animalistic side. I've engaged in it as a top/Domme, switch, and submissive/slave/bottom - I think it's pretty versatile that way. I don't see it as inherently submissive, it's more about what you do and how you do it.

I wouldn't know anything about this in real life. But in Secondlife, I can attest that Nekos were everywhere. Why? I dunno. In most cases, there wasn't an overlap to D/s at all. Just a girl with a tail and cat ears. But if it's popular that popular in online stuff, I have to assume it carries over to real life at least to some degree.

i have some feline characteristics but i have a greater affinity for dogs instead and haven't tried to hone them in this context. however, puppy play is something i enjoy. i'd rather be saddled with an english mastiff than a cat any day. it is a precious bond i appreciate. but i think the same can be had with any pet.
