ORIGINAL: Toppingfrmbottom Thanks level, thing is I don't know what foods are sugary or startchy unless it's obvious like ice cream. Create a free account at http://www.fitday.com and it will tell you for every food you enter. Food basically consists of protein, carbs and fat. Fiber is in the carb category, but because it's not digestible, what it mostly does is slow down gastric uptake. Alcohol is in a separate category. If it used to be alive and kicking, it's protein and has few or no carbs. Liver (and organisms like oysters where the liver is eaten) has a glycogen store and therefore some carbs. Processed meats like hot dogs have carbs added from food starch, maltodextrin, dairy, etc. Dairy has carbs, protein and fat. Which type of dairy determines the ratios. If it grew on a tree or a bush and is not a nut or a seed, it is mostly carbs. It may also have some protein (beans for example). It probably has little or no fat unless you add some in cooking. Fruit is mostly carbs. If it is a nut or a seed, it probably has fat, some carbs and a little protein. It may also have a lot of fiber if the whole thing is eaten, like or flaxseed or brown unhulled rice. Grains (rice, wheat, oats, etc) have very little fat, a lot of carbs, and minimal protein. If it grew under the ground, it is almost all carbs, and it is probably starchy or higher on the glycemic index. I've probably missed some stuff here but that's a quick off the cuff summary.
