How in the world can anyone read and disect a 2000 page bill in a couple of days. ? I'll bet that it goes down in flames.

So you retract you previous support for the PATRIOT act since it was never read by any House members before being voted on?

I have not heard a page count.

I just found one.  1990 pages.  Guess those people up on the hill will actually have to spend some time doing their job then.  I feel no pity for any of them.  Its what they are there for.

So much howling over something so simple....

If private insurance does such a great job, people will choose it. If it doesn't, people will choose the government plan. If, as critics complain, the government can't properly manage such a plan, so one will be in it.

However, if it turns out the people don't think the private insurance companies are doing them right, they'll have an option.

The only way this is a "take-over" is if the private insurance isn't up to snuff. If it's doing such a great job, no worries, your public option nightmare will be short-lived.

Come on. Think it through. The opposition is about private companies protecting practices that can't stand up to scrutiny.

I completely agree, Master Tim.  Even the opt-out option for states would be better than what we have now.

I don't remember that Congress had only 72 hours to vote on the Patriot act. It was debated for weeks. In the Senate the bill was passed 99 to 1. The only dissenting vote was our very own Russ Feingold, D-Wis.

Well then read a little history, you may be amazed at what the last president and congress got past you with no time to read anything....but if you argued, the GOP called you a traitor, helping the terrorists, un American...  Yea, that was never in the news..easy to know nothing about it

I think it would be wise for every member of the House and Senate to read a bill before voting on it. The democrats have control and probably won't do so. Bend over and get your wallet out. This will cost the middle class big time.

Instead of some peon underling reading it for the congress members, then writing a synopsis, waiting to see if it agrees with everyone elses, then voicing a concern, i see this as a way of making each member read it for themselves and draw their own conclusions.  Enough pussyfooting around.

Since that is only 3 days, and they won't be doing their homework at home, I'm thinking that they won't read it. They could read it during the day, but the 2 hour and other meetings won't give them time for that either. We should all remember this...Buyer Be Ware....

For a bill that no one can see or read or think about, it sure was easy to find...this is a pdf, so you can take your time
http://docs.house.gov/rules/health/111_ahcaa.pdf
There will be a test....
Oh and by the way, it is NOT a final bill...
Edited to fix a full stop

How they plan to do it - by cutting billions from Medicare & raising taxes billions more:

quote:

CBO Puts House Health Bill Total Cost At $1.055 Trillion

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Congressional Budget Office said Thursday a U.S. House health-care system re-write would extend health insurance to 96% of the nonelderly U.S. population by 2019, and spend $1.055 trillion to do so.

Penalties imposed on individuals who did not purchase insurance, and employers who did not offer coverage to their workers, would raise $161 billion over that time-frame. That brings the net cost of the bill to $894 billion through 2019, CBO said. House Democrats have seized on that net cost figure to claim that their bill is below President Barack Obama's upper limit which he set for health-care legislation of $900 billion.

The $1.055 trillion estimate also does not include $245 billion needed to stop Medicare payments to doctors from decreasing, which the House plans to address through separate legislation introduced Thursday. The costs of the bill are fully offset by cuts to existing spending programs-- including the Medicare Advantage and other programs--saving $426 billion through 2019, and by tax increases raising $572 billion over that time, CBO said. In fact, the combined impact of provisions in the bill would be a net deficit reduction of $104 billion in the next decade, according to CBO.

CBO also said the House bill would not add to the deficit in the first decade beyond 2019--a key condition for support from fiscally conservative House Democrats. CBO Director Doug Elmendorf, in a Thursday letter to House Democratic Chairmen, cautioned that his estimates are preliminary and "subject to substantial uncertainty."

Its smoke and mirrors. This is going to cost over a trillion dollars to start it up, and we don't have the stinking money. This is a part of an insane package of deals that are driving the economy off a cliff, destroying our currency and placing our heirs so deeply in debt they may never be able to climb out of it.

and the alternative?

Show me one alternative... one.  To stay on this course, we are going bankrupt anyways.  Insurance companies have had their run.  People have had to file bankruptcy, lost their homes and savings, because of medical costs.  And you want to gripe because the government offers a way to prevent the loss of so much by so many?

Is this the best?  I dont know.  I really see nothing being offered from the Republicans except complaints.  So all we have to go on is what the Dems are offering up.  And to be honest, i like this plan better than the original.
