This thread is about the ethics committee problem, gift.  If you wish to discuss the new bills being offered, then, by all means, start a new thread.

I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter if you are a republican or a democrat, being a politician automatically makes you a liar who has other people write your speeches (not your own thoughts) and both sides are working towards similiar goals....

Its sad but true.  We need more independents in government before we have anything approaching ethical standards in Congress or the Senate.  What is worse is that Sarah Pallin was an independent, and was marginalized.  We need more independents who are not democrat or republican.  Until then, we will not have real change.  We will have the same ol' same ol' where WE THE PEOPLE don't get our votes heard effectively.  Ethics are a joke in government, IMHO.

Mind you, I'm not saying our government is any worse than any other government.  Its all about the same.  Every government is corrupt, pretty much.  At least we the US seem to try to tell people ahead of time when we are going to war with them.....seems are wars are prolonged though......

OK, assuming what you say is true (im not saying it isnt, btw) what makes you think the independents wont end up like the other 2 parties?

Actually with the exception of an auto accident, I have been to the Doctor once in the last 6 years, and that was for a check up. Unlike many, I do not run to the doctor for the sniffles, a slight cough, or anything like that. In fact, most people that are eating those anti-biotics often for their minor colds and such, are worse off than me.

Now then, you cannot compare health insurance to car insurance, or home owners insurance. They are structured differently, purchased differently, and the laws applied differently. Maybe if medical costs were actually addressed, medical insurance would not cost so much, and then forcing people via threat of fine may not be so bad. I feel that people should reap what they sew, which means that if they do not have insurance, but could afford it, then they pay cash or are not seen.

The solution is not to force people to pay insurance companies money, or be fined by the government. I mean that is basically forcing a "tax" on just living. The solution is to fix the medical cost problems so that insurance or cash can pay for things. As it is now, I pay cash and file the insurance afterwards, it is cheaper that way, so people should look into why it is cheaper. Also, get the Doctor's out of making profit on financial interests in the hospitals that they treat in, as it is a conflict of interest.

Actually Willbeur in this case health insurance as an obligation serves two purposes....the first as you state is personal....the second is to protect others from having to foot the bills of the uninsured once they get sick......which being human is as inevitable as death itself.

Choosing whether or not to go to the Doctor for the sniffles is a different matter entirely than being struck with a major debillitating illness. When that happens choice goes out the window.....when it happens to the uninsured the rest of us in one form or another pick up the tab......

slvemike4u -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (10/31/2009 3:54:26 PM)

The letter next to Palin's name had nothing to do with her being "marginalized"...she accomplished that when she opened her mouth and spoke.D's or R's had nothing to do with it.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (10/31/2009 4:55:49 PM)

I would have to look through my browser history, but you should do some research on that committee. Check how many actual cases they have refered to the Atty Gen or for some type of condemnation. Sorry but that committee is there for only one reason, and that is for politicians to make sure that politicians are protected as much as possible. Sure there are some things that come out that they cannot keep under wraps but campaign contribution infractions and nepotism ( I think I am using the right word) are rampant, and the committee doesn't do much.

Im not arguing that, Master Orion.  Seems all they are there for is to slap other members on the wrists, say "naughty naughty, now fix it" and keep it under wraps.

But this thread isnt here to debate the health care bill.

Its not about the independents ending up like the other 2 parties.  Its about an outside organization trying to control American lives.  We need to make it harder for them to control what happens, by having independents who are striving for what is best for Americans.  An organization is currently deciding policy outside of our Senate and Congress.  We need independents to temper this, a significant majority.  The majority of Americans don't even bother to vote.  I mean, why bother, what is the difference between the two parties.  We need independents to keep the system free of corruption,as much as possible.

I think its time to forget the two major parties, lets vote in more independents into office.  if we can get like a third of the offices held  independents, then It would be more obvious The VOTES of the Americans are the driving force of our government....

Obama, change you can believe in, I'm sorry, I cannot believe in it.  The war hasn't ended fast enough in Iraq.  He's not a real leader....he's a mouthpiece for the people who put him into office...(multi-billionare) and organized crime, similiar to JFK....

You wonder who killed JFK, it was the people who put him into office, who weren't happy with how he was handling things.......

tazzygirl -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (10/31/2009 5:11:10 PM)

Just because they lable themselves as "independents"... who was it who said..

power corrupts... absolute power corrupts absolutely...?

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (10/31/2009 6:38:29 PM)

I agree and it why I brought it back to that point. Is there a reason to mention it yet again?

Dont know, Master Orion. Your post seemed to be a bit confusing as to where you were going with it. Not that it matters.

Hmm... all this begs the question... where were all the militant anti-partisans when Bush was president... [sm=cactus.gif]

In the Republican party, mostly, as I recall. That "if you diss the preznent then you hate America" nonsense only rolled over died during the last election.

Sanity -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (11/1/2009 7:32:47 AM)

No, for the most part everyone stood idly by while the last president was endlessly smeared. Called a chimp, chimp-in-chief, Bushy, the shrub, etc, etc.

Now any thread which addresses Obama's actual policies or about the administration itself gets almost instantly derailed with bogus hysterical strawmen arguments about partisan bogeymen.

mnottertail -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (11/1/2009 7:36:25 AM)

even the neo-cons? shameful. only people who disagreed with his invading Iraq under false pretenses, and ignoring the constitution should have given loud voice against him, but the conservatives as well? ---- maybe that was because (as ususal) they were taken in by him and found out he wasnt apt at anything including fiscal matters.

Ron

Sanity -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (11/1/2009 8:30:16 AM)

Thanks for reminding me mnottertail.

It wasn't just the president who was smeared, anyone who dared to discuss conservative politics was also shamelessly smeared as a "neocon" or otherwise labeled with any of many other hateful terms.

[:D]

Sanity -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (11/1/2009 8:33:26 AM)

Now its supposed to be shameful to be half that partisan...

(Shhhhhh!)

(And don't tell anyone I told you this.)

(Sarah Palin was the biggest joke ever in government.)

mnottertail -> RE: Leak of Ethics Reports (11/1/2009 8:45:37 AM)

I don't hear anyone crying shame, shame, in regards to policies enacted by any president one more than another........

neo-con is a hateful term? come now. birthers, teabaggers......no likewise derogatory terms exist that are often spewed out at liberals?

The conservatives have made a grand and unrelenting effort at making even the word liberal derogatory..........

But you seem to have no problem shamelessly labeling anyone who disagrees with your viewpoints as liberal, which the conservatives turned into a derisive term.

Are we not forced to buy car insurance?  Are we not forced to buy homeowners insurance?

Auto liability insurance (the only part you are forced to buy) is for the protection of others, not yourself. Homeowners insurance is to protect lenders, not yourself. Health insurance is personal, period.

The personal insurance is, among other things, to prevent health care for the rest of us from going up.  After all, that is why it was proposed.

To restate, force the healthy to buy something they don't want to subsidize the healthy.

There will be major constitutional fights over any bill that requires health insurance to be purchased.
