uck,

You haven't any basis wherein you can lay any sort of tenuous claim to intellect. Or honesty.

I mean you and wilbur are vying for the Abd Al-Jabbar Muhsen clone award.  And believe me, buddy, you guys are neck and neck, and I don't understand why you are lying and pretending that you are not of at least equal stature, but I suppose I can admire your willingness to debase yourself in this matter.

Ron

Of course Newsbusters is biased, that isn't being disputed. What is being disputed is the bias of the mainstream news media, and Newsbusters is pointing out an interesting fact in that regard.

And obviously that isn't being disputed either..

So let me try and follow this.

You are agreeing your source claiming mainstream news bias is itself biased.

Ooookay!

So then, if they are claiming bias, and are themselves biased, wouldn't that tend to cast doubt on their claims?

mnottertail -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/24/2009 8:58:59 PM)

or make the claims of bias less notworthy than a common fart, and just about as vivid and useful to cavil about?

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/24/2009 9:06:04 PM)

Hmm, I smell a troll babbeling about farts and debasement.....but I can't see her...wierd.

I guess I will just have to stick to the discussion thread.

TheHeretic -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/24/2009 9:18:53 PM)

Life happens, Tim, but I do hope you find the time.  I'm interested in just where you are coming from.  Perhaps once you define the terms, this can be a legitimate discussion.  The phrase you used for the NPR link, for example.  Was that a direct quote from the site?  Why describe the server of a major university as "scientist's files?"  Wouldn't it be more accurate to say a "climate research unit's files?"

Musicmystery -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/24/2009 9:27:18 PM)

I will, Rich. I suspect you and I are closer than it may appear at first on much of this. And I want to talk about the writing, which is where I see a lot of the problem, but that needs a structured piece, not a few points here and there. The things you're mentioning are icing.

I do like when we have thoughtful discussions. Disagreement is fine when we're learning what the other is thinking, along with reasoned points. And I think there's some legitimate misunderstanding that can be cleared up. Some of it is here, but buried inside the thread.

Would you drop the ad hominen bullshit and either come up with a relevant broadcast before their article or admit that even biased sources actually tell the truth now and then?

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/24/2009 11:44:55 PM)

Bias has nothing to do with true or not.....It is about which elements of the truth are told and which are ignored

Let's see.

We're talking about bias in the media.

I pointed out bias in another poster's article declaring the media was biased.

Gosh Willbeurr, I thought that was pretty relevant.

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/25/2009 2:06:36 AM)

typo

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/25/2009 2:08:53 AM)

Was that actually part of the article? or just something on the page near it. And I do assume you will consider all of the anti fox sites posted, media matters ect, also to be worthless for the same reason?

If anyone is interested,

Fox Host: Public Option Would Be Tax-Payer Funded Government Health Care Program - VIDEO

You'll be shocked to learn that Fox News is misinforming its viewers about the public option.

In reality, the public option would be available, as one option among many other private options, to people shopping in the health insurance exchange. Any of those 30-or-so million consumers could buy into it. And with the exception of the fact that it will be a). not for profit, and b). accountable to the government (as opposed to to shareholders), the public option will have to behave exactly like a private insurance company--financed and stabilized by consumer premiums, without any subsidy from the federal government.

So they took out the subsidies for those in need? Even the poorest of the poor would be forced to buy into a plan at the same rates as the rich?

This plan keeps getting worse and worse. Why you would support a reform that has no degree of progressivity is kind of confusing.

Unless it is just cheerleading for Obama, he needs some sort of plan to pass.

Not quite. Premiums for lower incomes are still subsidized, but they are subsidized by taxpayers, not by the government. <cough cough>

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/25/2009 10:10:11 AM)

Oh I see, its the Taxpayers subsidising the Public Option not the Government......Those stupid liars at Fox.....

Its difficult to keep up the silly leftisms of the day. They change so fast.

TheHeretic -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/27/2009 1:01:13 PM)

FR

I just ran a few things through Google, with minimal results.  My search was "global warming hacked emails," followed by abc, cbs, and nbc.  Damn near nada.

I think that once this thread gets the promised infusion of thought and definition, we will certainly have to address the failure of these important broadcast news outlets to cover a very significant story.  This isn't a bias of the individual reporter who allows his/her personal beliefs to determine how a story is written and slanted.  This is a decision that can only be coming from the editorial level.

It seems that just as the scientists have conspired to keep conflicting data out of the peer-review journals, these editors and producers are doing their best to keep a legitimate story out of the mainstream press.

Have you been drinking Sanity juice?

Googling TV for press coverage?

I can tell you that both the New York Times and NPR have multiple stories on this--both sites are searchable (if you're starved for coverage).

And yes, I agree that ABC, CBS, and NBC are problems--though I think the problems are deeper and different than you surmise (I agree that editors are a main problem, though).

I'll save this for the forthcoming epic mini-series (I've started outlining it).

A googling of "Obama copenhagen climate" pointed me straight to the TV networks homepage, Tim.  It also found this without much hassle;  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDJ_Mz8ftqI

Those three networks are an enormous slice of the "mainstream media."  I hope you aren't planning to dismiss that.  I'm sure you aren't planning to just disqualify them for discussion on the basis that we can't compare their coverage, because they didn't cover it.

Sanity -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/27/2009 3:05:13 PM)

You should try gargling with it Tim - you would be amazed at everything it cures.
