Hi guys, I'm curious what ideas you have for holding on to a piece of wood so you can use a router with a flush cutting bit with a roller guide bearing... I've done it with clamps, but moving them as you go around means that the copy isn't exactly the same as the template... Any ideas? I've thought about a few brad nails, but I'm wanting to build some real thin paddles... don't want them splitting at the hole. Thanks

Are you hand holding the router or using a table?

Find a double bearing flush cutter, it has a bearing above and below the cutting blades, sandwich the board to be cut between two template boards. Use a small router like a Bosch colt or a small trim router and you can put the sandwich in a wood vice and should only have to change positions of the sandwich in the vice once.

3M makes a light adhesive spray used by scroll sawers to hold paper patterns in place. You could try that and see if it would work. Rockler carries it.

Hey Rocko, this is "Tallkinkster" from that other site we're on. I build my jig right onto the top of my worktable. I had it positioned so that I could slide the board I was going to router into the jig and leave a "tail" end of the board hanging out that could be clamped down to the table. Once my routing was done, I simply cut the paddle off the end of the board with a miter saw or skill saw.

make you pattern out pf MDF and either use shelf liner (The tacky rubber mesh stuff) under the pattern or double stick tape. Rough cut you pattern with jigsaw or (blades are cheaper that bits band saw and then ise apanel trimming bit

Modify the table so a vacuum pump cn be used to hold the paddle to the table with vacuum.
