Ah yes, the seduction of pseudo cartesian philosophy.

My advice on this matter for all concerned?

Switch to decaf. It can be just as good as regular if given half the chance.

Failing that, give up waxing pholisophic on compartmentalized western ideals and have a read of some voltaire. The dose or ironic worldly cruelty will cause one to think less and act more.

But descartes does hypothesise that the only reason we can move beyond the i think therefore I am stage is an acceptance, not only of a god, but a benevolant one. This is acceptable as a premise, but offers no reasoning behind it, and thus the basis of this aproach to the theory of knowledge hits it's first kerb.

Sometimes, what a person said, and what the masses PERCIEVE that he said are two different animals ;)

All I know is that I used to hate the sumbitch before I ever heard of philosphy. He produced all the damn geometry theorums I had to memorize in high school many years ago. Remember those?

Yes, he invensted that form of geometery because he was lazy. He liked to sleep in late.

He was an educated man, and was drafted into the army. Because he was educated, he was made an officer and put in charge f sighting in artillery correctly. At that time, using old mathematics of the day, this was a long and arduous task that was quite time consuming. So, he invented analytical Geomoetery so that he could sleep in late, and sight the guns in more quickley.
