slaveisabitch -> What is with all of these "Dommes" giving me a website trying to get my personal information? (11/3/2009 12:16:45 AM)

Ive been on here for maybe a week and ive ran into 5 or 6 so called Dommes who always say if you want to please me go to this website and after the second time i knew what was comming. There reactions are almost alike. They tell me that it will make them happy and that nothing will be taken off my credit card its just to prove my age and how good i am. When I call them out on it they get mad or block me before i do it to them, they tell me how disapointed they are and all this b.s. I have two screen names, one that i use and one that i used to use sometime back. So I conducted alittle test, i added the domme and she was about the same song and dance so i blocked her and then added her on my other s/n and she said the same thing word for word. Has anyone run into this?? Whats your opinon?? ThankYou

I would do a search on scams Greedy. This has nothing to do with pro Dommes in my view.

The clue was in my first post.....Scams.

It really is that simple.

For the benefit of others, please remember to report these users to CM, if enough people do so they'll get deleted or blocked from the site. I'm sure they'll just start another account, but it may slow them down a little, and it's only 2-3 mouse clicks.

FYI, it's not unique to (pro) dommes either. So-called subs do the same, in fact, I'm sure every role has scams of this type, only the script changes to suit the role.

Regards,
Paul

Agreed, coz from the male dom side of the fence I can confirm the number of fake subs seems to have gone through the roof of late. I must be seeing 20-30 a week, and I'm only looking at those who claim to be in the "UK" - in the states it must be even worse. It's nothing to do with "pro-" Dom/Domme/Sub etc, it's fraud, pure and simple.

It's got to the point where, with maybe 9 out of 10 of them, there are a few ways I can tell without even having contact with them, although I'm not typing them here in case one of the little arseholes reads it. The 10th becomes obvious as soon as they send you a memo, and again I won't point up how, for obvious reasons. I have noticed, however, that while certain African nations were previously the prime source, it's now spreading more to eastern Europe. The net effect of this is that the quality of the written english use has improved substantially. That's progress [:D]

Some sites impose a one week wait from starting a profile to being able to mail anyone, and at one point I thought that might help, but of course these bastards are in a numbers game, so I guess they'd just take out a fistful of accounts and wait a week. The alternative is to have proper investigations, as opposed to the simple numbers threshold CM uses now, and to start blocking access on IP address (so that the number of connections the scammers use, which are often from net cafes, gets slowly reduced over time) but that would involve employing vastly more staff to cope, and would (I would imagine) push CM into being a pay-site, as opposed to free at point of use [1], so I guess the best I can suggest is the same as you, namely "be careful out there".

Yes . . . scammers is the right word - not pro-dommes.

They're easily recognisable after a while because their techniques are so cretinous (which is why I'm not going to enumerate them here).  Interestingly, I haven't had a scammer try it on with me for ages.  This may be because I've blocked every one who's contacted me.  This leads me to believe that I'm recognised as a pointless target - by what is, probably, just a small number of people opening lots of new CM accounts with new nicks and photos.

The only scammer who had any real style was a group who wanted me to join their 'femdom school'.  They at least knew the standard conman's trick of buttering up the mark, with comments like "you have been selected because of your special qualities", etc, etc.

Having different interests than yours does not make a person fake, it makes them incompatible. Sure, some of these people might be trying to scam others, but there's some person out there who will get off on that, or buy into it, and obviously there's a market for 'professionals' since they're in such an abundance.

Lucienne -> RE: What is with all of these "Dommes" giving me a website trying to get my personal information? (11/3/2009 5:32:14 AM)

Honestly, if people are still getting scammed on CM despite the large all caps red message to not send any money for any reason that appears whenever you read a message, I don't know that there's much more the site operators can do. They also have the link to scammer tips right there.

Am I the only one that reads an OP like this and thinks "you must be pulling my leg"? Scammers? On the internet? Have you guys heard of this? Whaddaya think? Thumbs up or down?

Prior to joining CM, I would've scoffed at the notion that a person could get off on being scammed. I'm seriously reconsidering that position.

I see what what you're saying about those who get off on being 'financially-exploited-subs/masochists', and the prodommes who go in for that, SC, but I think the OP's talking about a different sort entirely here.  Very young (or at least their photos make out that they are), internet-only, web-scammers.  This sort could just as easily be some bloke sitting in a flat in Budapest.  The best that one could get out of them is porn with something that feels a bit like a personal touch.  I had at least one of these a week when I first joined CM.

I've been on the internet for some 20 years.  CM is the first discussion board where I've been directly contacted by scammers via pms.  Some boards such as for entrepreneurs and investing have a separate forum for reporting scams.

Are you active on other forums that deal with sexual activity, or other places where people go looking particularly for sex?  (Yes, these boards deal with more than that, but to a lot of people, especially on the "dating site" side of this, BDSM=sex.)  Sex in general tends to bring out human stupidity and desperation.  The combination makes an excellent breeding ground for scammers.

I'm a female, so I don't tend to see scammers in these kinds of places.  (I do, however, see a lot of desperation and horniness.)  I know the scammers troll craigslist.  I'd be curious to know if people see them in places like fetlife.

daintydimples -> RE: What is with all of these "Dommes" giving me a website trying to get my personal information? (11/3/2009 6:55:43 AM)

There are a lot of scammers here of all stripes. It is not, however, the first server I've been on where scammers abound and contact you directly. When I was active  on e-bay,  I was sent a dozen scamming messages a day.

I assume they are here on CM because they have found a pool of willing victims. If you're not one, then report them.

Agreed.  It seems to Me if the scams didn't work at least some of the time, those conducting the scams wouldn't be here.  They would find greener pastures with more profit.  Since there is money being made from those who fall for this kind of thing, they will remain.

Which leads to the question of who do you really place the responsibility?.  Those who are making the money or those who have provided the opportunity to make it?

ShaktiSama -> RE: What is with all of these "Dommes" giving me a website trying to get my personal information? (11/3/2009 7:16:00 AM)

Um...yeah.

Good rule of thumb?

Real dommes neither want nor need your credit card information over the Internet, sight unseen. Even real pros usually prefer to interview a client and find out whether he is clean and sane before they form a professional-client relationship and start charging for sessions, from what I've heard.

I don't know why, but that line made me chuckle. Nice one [;)]
