"V" is a TV sci-fi show, by the way. The point of the article seems to be that if Obama has lost ABC he could really be in trouble.

Wow, you mean that whole show is an Obama metaphor?

How clever and original.

The only problem with the theory is that "V" is a remake of a crappy 1980's vintage miniseries of the same name, that has the exact same plot line.

From where I sit, ABC is still licking ass when it comes to the present administration.

Not that licking ass on it's own merits is a bad thing you understand.

I did note that Diane Sawyer didn't have her usual on air orgasm at the mention of
Obama's name this morning. Could just be no lube in the ol' V I suppose.

Exactly. It is a remake. i disagree that the original was crappy, but i am a sci-fi fanatic. i actually have the original series on DVD.

i wonder if the person who posted the original message realized that what he described is the EXACT storyline from the original series, and that it was written at least 25 years before Obama took office?

Which is just repetitive without addressing how it is a "barbed commentary" on Obama when it follows the identical plot line of the show from 26 years ago.

Yeah, i understand that. i just assumed that you agreed with its assertion, since you chose to post the original message.

i went back and read the full article, and surprisingly, it gives the show a glowing review. i don't see why they felt the need to even mention Obama or Obamamania. The linkage seemed contrived, and the writer abandoned the assertion fairly early in the article. It was almost like he knew that calling the show an attack on Obamamania would draw far more readers than a simple review of a sci-fi show ever could.

Sure, sure, sure... "V" is a long comment on the Obama Administration... just as another "V" (V For Vendetta) was a comment on the Bush regime. Right?

(fat lot of change it created, in either case.)

Still, it's rather nice to see the woman who played "Anara" from Firefly working again. (Without having to be on some crappy Stargate spinoff, like so many other actors from cancelled sci fi series in the past.)

Television is an art form, you can read into it whatever you want. Hell, I can probably cruise the web and find articles on how "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" is really a conservative political recruiting tool.

People can read just about anything into any plot line and come up with what it “means” – even if it is against the intent of the author(s). Consider Shakespeare: You can find people who will tell you that the play The Tempest (or any other play, for that matter) means this, this, and that; and they’ll cite plenty of examples and research to “prove” it. Meanwhile, somebody else will “prove” that the meaning of the play is just the opposite.

The original V (IMHO) was clearly about how easy it is for a tyrannical government to come to power by stirring up our fears and prejudices while promising to solve our problems by putting the bad guy (you have to have a bad guy for people to vent their fear and anger on) in his place. My favorite character in the original was the elderly Jewish man who saw what was happening before most others (I particularly liked the scene at the end where he shows the teenagers how to properly vandalize the Visitors propaganda posters).
