Didnt someone say the vote for this wasnt coming up till December?

I think that was re a Senate/House reconciliation bill...and December is wildly optimistic for that. If the Senate tries to move toward a government option there will be a fillibuster.

Senate Democrats advance climate bill without GOP

WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats sidestepped a Republican boycott Thursday, pushing a climate bill out of committee in an early step on a long and contentious road to passage. Other committees still must weigh-in on the measure, but the partisan antics early on threatened to cast a pall over the bill — one of President Barack Obama's top priorities — as it makes its way to the Senate floor and as nations prepare to meet in Copenhagen, Denmark, next month to hammer out a new international treaty to slow climate change.

I think the Dems may be learning how.

Big difference between crap and tax vs health care. People have been under a constant barrage of fear mongering on global warming for years, and are only beginning to realize its a scam and how costly it could be. People know their health care and they know the taxes they pay and they know 1.2 trillion more isnt worth it.

factcheck.org misrepresents Boehner's statement on factcheck.org's findings

Boehner:

MASSIVE CUTS TO MEDICARE BENEFITS FOR SENIORS. Despite grave warnings from CBO, FactCheck.org, and the independent Lewin Group that cuts to Medicare of the magnitude included in Speaker Pelosi’s bill would have a negative impact on seniors’ benefits and choices, Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill stays the course and cuts Medicare by hundreds of billions of dollars.

factcheck:

We never have said that seniors would suffer "massive cuts to Medicare benefits" under the pending House or Senate overhaul bills

The only thing Boehner (or his staff) attributes to factcheck is that "Pelosi's bill would have a negative impact on senior's benefits and choices", and that is a true statement.

Yet again, you make stuff up. Or am i to believe you are now a spokeperson for Boehner... or you plagerize. Eh... no matter.

Were sure seniors who see benefit cuts of any kind wont be happy about it. But to characterize these as "massive cuts," and our article (as well as CBOs analysis) as a "grave warning" is simply rubbish. We asked Boehners office to take our name out of the document, but spokesman Michael Steel said: "Im not inclined to do so," and invited us to send an e-mail further making our case. We are doing so.

I guess factcheck's e-mail worked.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091105/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_overhaul

WASHINGTON – Buoyed by two major endorsements, House Democratic leaders on Thursday predicted swift passage of President Barack Obama's historic health overhaul initiative. The president himself declared, "We are closer to passing this reform than ever before."

With a vote set for Saturday, momentum gathered behind the sweeping legislation to remake the U.S. health care system and extend coverage to millions of the uninsured. The American Medical Association and the powerful seniors' lobby AARP both threw their weight behind the bill Thursday. AARP, with its 40 million members, promised to run ads and contact activists to gin up support.

One has to REALLY  watch this tecknique of congress.   They say nothing is planned then cram it down.

There is alot of opposition to both health care and the global carbon tax.

I hate that they now paint it as "Republican"  people cant you see- if you run a household all of this will cost you alot more to run a household.

I dont mean 5% more.  I mean min 20% for the carbon tax alone.    Not all of us live in mansions.  Some of us barely make the rent.

Even still-  what is the cheapest cost to have a roof?

Regs make it MORE expensive- particularly with our lobbied congress.

tazzygirl -> RE: Gaining approval? (11/6/2009 6:45:00 AM)

I was watching the news at work yesterday when they started discussing open enrollment for insurance plans from work. Among other changes, it seems, according to the CNN (i believe that was the station, will check today) analysis, the out of pocket costs for these plans are jumping 10% or more. And if you dont specifically enroll in one, they can choose what plan to enroll you in, or drop you from the plans all together.

Its getting scary, i will admit. But these are all changes that have been needed for so long, and have been ignored by previous administrations in lieu of tax cuts and war talks.

AP Sources: Dem Health bill to get AARP backing

WASHINGTON – In a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping health care overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday. An endorsement from the seniors' lobby was critical when then-President George W. Bush pushed the Medicare prescription drug benefit through a closely divided Congress in 2003.

House Democratic leaders are hoping it will work the same political magic for them as they strive to deliver on President Barack Obama's signature issue.

An announcement from the 40-million member group is expected Thursday, said officials with knowledge of the group's decision. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the endorsement is not official yet.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091105/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_overhaul

Another interesting twist... tomorrow will tell.

The AARP never supported Bush's prescription drug bill because

1) They were in the process of developing their own drug offering to seniors at the time
2) Supporting Bush in anything would have endangered their "victim's coalition" status with the Democrats

As a result, the AARP spread the word that Bush's drug plan was "too confusing" and recommended against it at the time. They may have changed their mind since. Since then, the AARP has lost a good deal of credibility with seniors, so their endorsement isn't a shoe-in approval for whatever reform comes down the pike, as the article implies it will be.

I don't know if its true or not, but I had heard that Bush's plan has been the only entitlement plan in US history that has performed under budget since it's inception.

An excerpt from an Idaho Statesman online news article:

Minnick, Simpson to vote no on health bill

The House measure will include a public option provision, which both congressmen oppose.

WASHINGTON - A no vote comes as no surprise from Rep. Mike Simpson, who shares other Republicans' opposition. But Democratic Rep. Walt Minnick's vote was highly sought by House Democratic leaders.

"It's a very difficult vote for me, because I really want to vote for health care reform, but it has to be done right," Minnick told the Idaho Statesman on Friday.

All the top House Democrats have spoken to him about his vote, he said.

Democrats are scrambling to pull together the 218 votes they need to pass the bill. They hold 258 seats, but conservative Blue Dog Democrats like Minnick have proved difficult to corral.

I wonder how many Progressives would like to see the Democratic leadership work to have Minnick thrown out of the Democratic party?

Just ask any senior citizen that falls into the abyss of Medi-care due to Bush's plan called a "doughnut hole" just how effective your hero Mr. Bush's plan is....not that I would wish to confuse you with reallity....

And dont forget to ask them their income and whether they decided to buy supplemental coverage that closes the doughnut hole.

Gap coverage such as the doughnut hole happens to be extremely effective design. The only way to achieve meaningful cost savings in health care is to engage the patient in the purchasing decision. MPD's lowest 2 tiers pays (75% - 295) of the vast majority of annual claims. The doughnut hole, which again can be covered by supplemental insurance, is in the crticial area where generics and mail-order discounts can substantially reduce the cost. The top tier covers 95% of catastrophic drug costs.

This is by far the best designed of all government subsidies, and actually has come in below cost estimates. Thank you for raising it.
