My Lady and I have been together 15 years, I am 47, she is 56.
I've always preferred women a bit older than I am, because generally I've found older women to be more mature, thoughtful, and so on. This isn't to say that there are not young lesbians out there who I'd find attractive and relationship-worthy, were I single. I *have* dated a woman or two who was young enough to literally be my daughter, and had no issues with them because of age.
If you want to find an older lesbian for a stable relationship, your best bet is to stay away from gay bars. Look for GLBT volunteer organizations and opportunities. Volunteer and be active in these kinds of activities -- that's where you will meet some of the best people.
In San Antonio, when I was living there, there was an informal "lesbian professional women's brunch club", that was a group of ladies who didn't hang out at the bars, some of whom were at least semi-closeted due to their career environments. My chiropractor and dentist (both lesbians) invited me to these and it was a great environment for making friends. A similar group existed in College Station when I was a student at TAMU, usually holding backyard barbecues. This group of professionals REALLY played it close to the vest, because several were on the staff or faculty of the university and didn't want potential problems with students. Again, the invitation to such get-togethers was extended by people in the group to other women they found to be mature and intelligent.
As it turned out, in the end, a bunch of my straight, non-kinky friends actually introduced me to my Lady. My friends and hers were all tired of the two of us dating people who were not good for us. They all got together, figured out the two of us might work as a couple, and introduced us at a campout. We hit it off and have been together ever since.
