  • "The Gorean" (Author unknown). A Goreanised version of the "Gambler" (Can supply words if requested)

  • Please do old friend. I know the origional and it would be interesting to see the goreanised version

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The Gorean
    On a warm summer evening, on a kaiila bound for nowhere,
    I met up with a Gorean, we were both too tired to sleep
    So we took turns at staring at the darkness form the fire
    ‘Till bordom over took him and he began to speak.
    He said: “Son I’ve made a life out of reading people’s faces
    And knowing what their skills were by the way they held their eyes
    Now if you don’t mind me sayin, I think your out of aces,
    And for a taste of your Paga, I’ll give you some advise.”
    I handed him my bota and he drank down my last swallow
    Then he bummed some kandada and stared out into the night
    The Night grew deathly quiet, then he turned back to the fire
    He said: “If you want to play the game boy, you better learn to play it right.”
    “You gota know when to hold em and know when to slice em.
    Know when to walk away and know when to run
    You don’t count your kills when your sitting at the fire
    Time enough for counting when the drinking is done.”
    “Every Rarius knows that the key to his survival.
    Is to know what to through away and to know what to keep.
    For every Kavar is a winner and every Tochuk is a looser
    And the best you can hope for is a slave at your feet.”
    When he finishes talking, he turned back t’ward the fire,
    Spat out his kandada and drifted off to sleep.
    Somewhere in the darkness, the Gorean, he broke even
    And from his words, I found an ace that I could keep.
    “You gota know when to hold em and know when to slice em.
    Know when to walk away and know when to run
    You don’t count your kills when your sitting at the fire
    Time enough for counting when the drinking is done.”
    "The Ballard of The Greeen Berets" ~ Sgt Barry Sadler wrote the lyrics when wounded and in hospital in 'Nam and recorded the song. (Robin Moore wrote the music).
    Ahhh ok. I never knew who wrote it, or who sang it originally. The only version I have ever heard was the one done by Horton. Thankyou Master IronBear
    On the way out: Battle Without Honour: Tomoyasu Hotei
    On the way back:I've been to a marvelous party: Noel Coward
    As things get heavy: Number One: Hazel Fenandes
    Preparing for action: Atom Bomb: Fluke
    So I guess I don't have a themesong, I have a soundtrack.
    When I was a little boy I used to love Johnny Horton's greatest hits. Especially The Battle Of New Orleans.
    His Whispering Pines, is in my opinion, one of the best songs he ever did.
