Like my Grandfather said: "theres a time to work and a time to play and never the twain should meet."

Edited to add: says the guy who's checking out Collarme while at work. [:)]

Geez, What kind of tech consultant can't forward his emails correctly?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Cornell Employees' Email Blunder from Hell (11/10/2009 8:47:41 AM)

And here I was thinking it was embarassing to accidentally post something in a chatroom instead of the PM box when you're cybering.  Not that Ive ever done that of course.... I just saw it done

LadyPact -> RE: Cornell Employees' Email Blunder from Hell (11/10/2009 9:12:15 AM)

Funny as hell!  Absolutely hysterical!

A definite reminder to have different email addresses for friends, family, colleagues, and others.

Not to mention that the genius is trusting that his computer activities were not monitored and possibly recorded.

"Let's see now.  Your resume says that you;re a computer consultant.  Why did you leave your last job?"

thornhappy -> RE: Cornell Employees' Email Blunder from Hell (11/10/2009 5:45:59 PM)

Damn, to think I was embarrased by emailing someone that a marketing plan sounded like a Dilbert cartoon...only to accidentally reply all.

(In my paltry defense, "reply all" was the default.  I did say it was paltry.)

A friend of mine who works in IT saw this story and said it was highly unlikely the guy made a mistake and forwarded the email himself. He thought it was a case of an admin monitoring the guy's email, deciding he was a douche, and forwarding the email across the network.

That violates the old maxim "Never attribute to malice what could be due to stupidity", but it makes sense.  Except I suspect the admin got ticked at him and THEN monitored his emails.

alwayssummer -> RE: Cornell Employees' Email Blunder from Hell (11/11/2009 12:19:03 PM)

I know Cornell/Ithaca mind set pretty well.  I doubt any job fallout will come to the two for their infidelity being exposed.  Sexually it is a pretty liberal place.Nabokov wrote LOLITA while teaching at Cornell about fifty years ago.  It has always been Cornell's proudest fact.
Vonnegut, Richard Price, Alex Haley are  a few important writers Cornell has graduated.  The bar is pretty high. These two will be criticized and shamed not for their activity but for their lack of literary talent and sexual imagination in their emails.  That's more what people at Cornell care about.
Oh, the Mom also appears to  need some psych help...those kids might be in a tad of danger especially as the relentless & oppressive Ithaca winter drags on and her cabin fever  increases.  Sounds like she hates her kids, her husband and her(self) life; the infidelity probably just her first step in acting out. Hope someone notices this is a woman  headed towards unhinged, especially now with the  traumatic embarrassment of these emails made public.

You grandfather sounds likes a wise man. He's spot on. I am one of those dinosaurs who believes that while I am on the clock I should be doing work. I never send personal email or do any personal web surfing on the clock. I don't like my online activity to be monitored (their right - their system) but I wouldn't do it anyway. If our friend at Cornell shared the same work ethic his personal life wouldn't be headlines even if he wasn't guilty of the cc: himself.

Reading down through the comments you see that someone named 'mslewis' outed a co-worker at their law firm for accidentally cc:ing them on a private email of a racy nature and got the dude fired. As much as I feel work time is for work I'm not pathetic enough to do something like that. That person is a douchebag.

I didn't explain it clearly. My friend figures an admin was monitoring the guy's email because he thought the guy was a douchebag.

angelikaJ,

Thank you, I really enjoyed that.

If he had worked for AT&T instead of Cornell, he would be looking for a new job way before he looked for a new wife. Zero tolerance for anything even close to this..

sophia37 -> RE: Cornell Employees' Email Blunder from Hell (11/14/2009 9:13:41 AM)

omg, I loved this scandal. And the comments at the bottom were just as entertaining.

rockspider -> RE: Cornell Employees' Email Blunder from Hell (11/14/2009 9:55:28 AM)

LOL. Sort of remind me of old Charles when he wanted to be Camillas tampax.
It would never happen in my company. The boss loves seing me relaxed and doing nothing. It is when i run around like a blue assed fly looking confused and haggard he worries. Then the plant is down and it costing him plenty of mullah. We have a bet with him. 500 hours no stoppage and it is a free botle of Glenfiddich for everybody in maintenance and operators. Clock goes zero he can rant and rave freely.[:)]
