Recently I had an exchange of e-mails with a person. After noting and politely pointing out how far off they were with their search in a previous e-mail the conversation went something like:

Me: have you looked at my journal entries and introduction to my profile?
Them: could we still be friends?

There was no acknowledgment to my concerns if they really had read the said journal entries. It was like those entries do not matter and I am moving on to my own agenda.

----------

Am I really off on judging this, or has the written style of notes and letters actually changed? OR is thee a mind set thing here I am missing. Admittedly I am 51 years old and this may be just a societal change I have to deal with.

Just a matter of the other person failing to follow through on your suggestion to look at your journals and such. Basically that was their responsibility and not yours so, no...your writing style is fine...it's the other person's lack of paying attention.

There is a trend in the teck age to go after instant gratification.

On what bases is there a friendship?

I would have taken their response to mean that they either:

1.  Did not wish to read your profile and journal
~or~
2.  That had read your profile and journal
~or~
3.  They are desperate
~or~
4.  They had not received your message about the reading

And with each of these, concluded that they would still like to be friends.

Perhaps they thought that you looking for something else in a relationship was irrevelant to a friend. If someone asked to be friends, I wouldn't think I had to know about what they needed with a lover since that wasn't a position I wanted to fill.

There are many people here I value for our interactions whom I do not want to ever be sexual with. So I've never looked to see if they are experts in knifeplay or fireplay for example. I don't need to know that in a friend.
