With a chinese gf, a book on traditional torture, and the strange state of affairs which allows chinese google to access the collarme site, but not a p0l1t1c@l one, we found an interesting desctiption of one, that sounded like it was 2 solid wooden/laqour sheets, joined by ropes at the bottom, and joined by at the top by an intricate butress cut. The rope was lengthened to increase the angle, and then shortened again to increase the pain. Aparently used during the 5 kingdoms period by one king, punishing a mistress who had bedded his general.
That does sound nice. In making it though, I'd be worried about skin pinching in the joints. prehaps an inverted hinge may be a safer way.
