The Republican circus just keeps getting funnier.

Republican National Committee health plan covers abortion

The Republican National Committee’s health insurance plan covers elective abortion – a procedure the party’s own platform calls “a fundamental assault on innocent human life.”

Federal Election Commission Records show the RNC purchases its insurance from Cigna. Two sales agents for the company said that the RNC’s policy covers elective abortion.

Informed of the coverage, RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho told POLITICO that the policy pre-dates the tenure of current RNC Chairman Michael Steele.

“The current policy has been in effect since 1991, and we are taking steps to address the issue,” Gitcho said.

Leading up to passage of the House health care reform bill last week, 176 House Republicans joined 64 Democrats in voting for the so-called Stupak amendment, a measure that prohibits federal funds from being used to buy health insurance that covers elective abortions.

It seems, like in so many things, the GOP views this as something the rich should have access to but not the poor. They don't mind if those who can afford it get abortions. The poor, however, can continue to have unwanted children that the GOP will then refuse to help educate, feed or protect while lecturing about personal responsibility. WTG GOP.

You might want to look into whether Cigna offers a group as small as 200 employees design options that exclude abortion before you celebrate. (Hint: they dont)

So it's ok that they deal with a company that will not allow them to opt out of "Murder of innocent babies", Willbur? There is no insurance company that would have allowed them that option? Or is it just another case of "convenience vs ethics"? And is there any depths to which some will not sink to defend the good ole' right wing?

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: RNC insurance plan covers abortion (11/12/2009 10:47:11 PM)

You would think this vaunted free market would create a niche that some insurance company would be happy to fill - group policies that do not cover elective abortions, to be marketed to businesses owned by conservatives opposed to abortion. That's the theory, isn't it? I thought that was the way it was supposed to work. If there's a demand, it will reward the enterpreneur who's clever enough to figure out a way to meet it and make money off of it. Why doesn't that seem to be happening here?

And more importantly, why the hell can i not remember how to spell "entepreneur?"

I read this yesterday and was waiting to see how the RNC would spin it.

Also WBD, there was an opt out clause and since 1991 they never opted out, Gee, I wonder how many babies they murdered and paid for; all the while telling the rest of America that is was a sin.

I wonder if that nut job who protests at military funerals against abortion will be protesting in front of the RNC office soon

I'd like to see it, they do not offer it in any current policies for groups that size.

And, btw, Im pro-choice.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: RNC insurance plan covers abortion (11/13/2009 6:37:52 AM)

Well its way less expensive to cover an abortion than to cover a pregnancy and then the infant and shots and doctor visits that precedes it.

mnottertail -> RE: RNC insurance plan covers abortion (11/13/2009 6:54:12 AM)

so, do I got this right? Republicans are insuring their own death squads against republicans?

Is this why there are so few conservatives left?

any of you neo-cons wanna take this one?

housesub4you -> RE: RNC insurance plan covers abortion (11/13/2009 9:01:26 AM)

No the silence tells deafening from the GOP and the RNC

Here is a qoute from the article "According to several Cigna employees, the insurer offers its customers the opportunity to opt out of abortion coverage — and the RNC did not choose to opt out."

I thought he was protesting homosexuals and claiming that god was punishing America for allowing gays to... well basically to exist.

housesub4you -> RE: Republican National Committee insurance plan covers abortion (11/13/2009 6:08:03 PM)

Now it also appears that Cantor and Gingrich also offer a health insurance that allows and pays for a woman that works for them to have an abortion.

Hmmm...seems their employees can make their own choice, but not the rest of the women in America if they get their way

Has anyone else noticed that all the conservatives who scream like scalded hens when a democrat gets so much as a parking ticket have studiously kept silent on this matter?

slvemike4u -> RE: Republican National Committee insurance plan covers abortion (11/13/2009 7:27:35 PM)

What are they supposed to say Spinner...shall they admit that their heros are a bunch of hypocritical fuckwads?

Doesn't look to me like much of anybody thinks it's a hot topic. Ya gotta find that videotape of those dirty Republicans insisting to CIGNA that their coverage include abortion on demand and swearing the sales reps to secrecy.

K.

Or conversley you might come across the video where those evil cocksuckers at CIGNA slipped the abortion coverage into the policy after the dirty Republicans signed the papers......either way,get yourself a videotape and then you have a story.Till then all you have is another example of hypocrisy from the GOP...and lets face it those stories are a dime a dozen.

housesub4you -> RE: Republican National Committee insurance plan covers abortion (11/14/2009 2:51:12 AM)

Yea, not much of a story, with the facts and everything.

The GOP just has no way to spin this one, they preach one thing to the masses, then behind the backs of the people who voted for them, they take care of their own employees allowing them a choice while doing everything they can to stop every other women for having one
