BitaTruble -> What do you do with broken toys? (3/10/2006 10:27:39 PM)

Himself and I have broken a number of toys through the years. The cheapie stuff, like 5 gal paint stirrers are tossed out, but some of our nicer paddles, quirts and floggers have also met their demise. If it's a piece which was particularly expensive or especially loved, we label it with the date, how it was broken and who it was broken on. ::sighs in fond memory of her beloved quirt:: Anyway, it's rather like scrapbooking, and fortunately, the broken toy collection is small when compared to the number of years and the number of toys we've accumulated.

So, what do you, the forum dwellers, do with your broken toys?

Celeste

Some I've kept myself for sentimental reasons.

Some are lovingly awarded to the bottom they were broken on.

Some hit the trash or are reborn into newer toys. Homemade rattan canes are like this. A little shaving and some sanding, and they are perfectly usable again. Split handles on paddles often get wrapped or coated in Tool Dip. Broken or cut rope gets new end-work and goes back into the play pile. Metal hardware that gets damaged, though, often gets disposed of for safety reasons.

Hmm... may be any of, but not limited too, the following reactions

a) throw it away
b) cuss and throw it away
c) repair it
d) correct design flaws and make a new one
e) discard it as an inferior design and invent my own design
f) give immediate medical attention and appologize [;)]
g) pretend I meant to do that [8D]
h) pretend I meant to do that and brag about it!
i) look stunned/confused that my improved design wasn't flawless, decide its a good time for a break and clean up the mess later
j) check to see if this is going to affect my insurance rates
k) go back to Lowes / Dom Depot for more supplies [:D]

I'm glad you clarified that the "toys" were inanimate objects. [:D]

Rare it is that something breaks on me; I have this fascination with irons and metal restraints, so they will most likely outlive me. I do have crops and canes and whips, however. When they start to show wear, I simply replace them. I'm somewhat minimalist and like to be free of clutter; I don't attach sentimental value to my implements of correction. If anything, I place that value more upon the marks they leave.

BitaTruble
?????????????? for you
what kind of damage did you do to the quirt

I have been thinking about trying to make one of those but
as of yet I have not started on it
main reason is that i am not good at braiding

Got a feeling.. this will be the winner........ LMAO... gotta love the list... at least I do... <smiles>

[sm=hair.gif] But as far as me.... lets see... I remember.. years ago.. when my oldest was teething... and I was moving cross country. I had my over night bag in back seat... (thank goodness it was night... would of died from total embarrassement no Dom would of ever been able to administer... LMAO)... I stop for gas... as I went to get little one from back seat.. she had fell asleep with my dildo beside her.. she had been chewing on for her teething ring. I should of been suspicious of the fact that I knew she was awake.. but quiet... LMAO

Needless to say.. I could not use it after that.. not because of damage... all that was mainly on the bottom. It was just the mere thought... LMAO........ so It made it's way to a knife and the trash... [sm=hair.gif]

Himself was using it on me and in mid-swing, the head popped right off. We tried to fix it, but it just couldn't be repaired. We had only had it for about a year, so I think it was a design flaw with the braiding. I didn't make it myself and we couldn't figure out what went wrong with it.

lol Padriag....we would go with a,b or c of Your list. Master said to add, drop them off at the Salvation Army or put them into a garage sale hehe
.
.

(We gotta have enough broken toys to open a small museum now. Master has taken to hitting me with a heavy stainless steel 10 inch x 4 inch spatula now. - its survived...so far..although rather bent. )

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/11/2006 3:14:24 PM)

I try and morph them into new toys. My Boston partner saves EVERYTHING.

OscarHargraves -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/11/2006 6:38:00 PM)

Hi BitaTruble,

If you're not a shy person and want to have some fun you might consider dontating them to the local Salvation Army store or the Goodwill. Carry them in and lay them on the counter. Then firmly tell the person that you want to donate some old toys and you would like an itemized receipt ! Be prepared to describe (in detail but not obscenely) what each toy is and what it cost new. Tell them that you need the receipt for a tax deduction.

I promise you will have a VERY hard time completing the entire transaction and leaving the store with a straight face........

MistressSassy66 -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/11/2006 10:10:33 PM)

If it cant be turned into something else and is just taking up space in the trash it goes.

The only thing I have kept that is useless, is My very first whip I got,it is just too small for the effect I now like to have.
Tried to throw it out and just couldnt part with the darn thing,so its retired from the dungeon and hanging on the wall in Mine and slave bishops bedroom.

FangsNfeet -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/11/2006 10:19:01 PM)

Broken or not, anyone with a creative mind can put a toy to good use. Even if the toy is unreparable, it can still be altered and or be used for something else.

As for a broken vibrator, just take it to a repair shop so they can either fix the motor or replace it.

NickInSLC -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/12/2006 5:22:11 AM)

Most of my toys will outlive me. However, in my early days of leatherworking I had a few floggers lose their tails. A simple matter of redesigning the attachment technique. Now, I've finally got it down and frequently play tug o war with floggers to demonstrate that they won't come apart.

Being a toy maker myself puts me in the unique position of being seldom overcome by lust for a toy. I simply won't buy something I can make myself. Which lets me be a whole bunch more particular about the toys I do buy. For me to buy a toy, it must be either stupid cheap or extremely high quality.

On the rare occasion that I do break a toy, if it's worth my time, I'll fix it. But if I can make a new one in less time than the repair will take, or it's what I consider a disposable toy (canes, paddles, and the like), I will either present it to the bottom or toss it.

As far as the quirt is concerned. Most braided whips have a bulge that is made by simply wrapping the end tightly with a fine twine. It seldom holds up. My solution to your problem would be to glue a wrapping of leather around the end to produce a new bulge. Then stab an awl through the whole works in two directions, use a needle to wrap artificial sinew around and through the holes, then finally trim it roundish and cover with a knot. Unless it's a particularly nice quirt, in which case, I would tie a donut knot around the handle in the middle of where the bulge should lie, then cover with one knot over another till you've built it up to the size you want. It's a lot of work, but it will last forever.

MrBiguun51 -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/12/2006 11:58:30 AM)

Celeste
thanks for the info on the quirt

A few years ago I used to buy out yard sales then take the junk to the flea market and re-sell

1 of the items i found in the yard sale junk I bought was a
steel ruler not the light seight flimsy metal kind you get now at the office supply stores
that ruler has left its mark on several bare bottoms
never bent or broke unlike some other toys

ExistentialSteel -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/12/2006 2:08:37 PM)

Hey, long as they aren't dry rotting from lack of use like the tires on an 85 Ford in Grandma's garage, don't worry about them breaking. Be happy you are using them and buy more.

RiotGirl -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/12/2006 5:31:37 PM)

Arg, it seems we are constantly restocking as everything wants to constantly break on me. i even broke a pair of leather cuffs
= ) Master was quite suprised on that one! If its still useable Master uses it until it breaks further on me and then to the trash it goes. Except for the hairbrushes, i actually still use those [:)] i've even broken a few ball gags. LOL Sometimes when things are broken, they can be re used in a different way. We had a like a flicker whip.. a pole with alittle leater hanging off of it. So the leather shredded.. so it became a cane.. and then the cane broke.. so to the trash it went. Recently he broke the rattan cane over my butt. Right now the newest stock is a ping pong paddle. Master says they dont break easy, but we'll see. Course there are a few toys like this he hasnt broke on me. Like the 2 by 4. that has yet to break. But it leaves some massive brusing so its not a good ever day, whup your butt thing. We've gotten into quick ties now! As i broke the one set of leather cuffs and i doubt he really wants me to break the other.. or have me actually removing myself from the restraint. i suppose i broke his "security" level with em. ha ha! But so the leather cuffs are not used and the handcuffs just eat into my nerves too much. i end up, well, my nerve being like cut off. Lose sensation in odd spots for a month or so LOL. So we try and stear clear of those. As no matter how much padding Master tries to use around my wrists or ankles, i seem to twist and turn too much and well.. So quick ties it is!

anyone know if ping pong paddles break easy?

BeachMystress -> RE: What do you do with broken toys? (3/12/2006 7:05:43 PM)

I've only had one toy (other than my fingernails) "break" on me.. a flogger made by unowned beauty from ebay. I had to have it reknotted when the top knot fell off in the middle of play, at a cost more than the flogger had been!

I don't know why my toys don't break. I'm not a gentle Domme. I've always been one to beat the stuffing out of my sub. It may be that as a toy queen with tons of stuff, I don't use any one toy often enough to reach that stress point.
