quick question about chatroom

hi everyone. I'm new to this site, and was about to join a chatroom.. my computer (using windows vista) tells me there is some activex control that the website wants to install, and even when I click ok, it blocks the installation of the IE active x plugin.. anyone know what's up with this? are these chatrooms safe to use? thanks for the help..

Active X is a microsoft add on that is notorious for letting viruses through.

I hope you have fun. It must be my age- as I don't see any benefit to doing chat. I do like the message board format- Chat seems like ASL. And not much return info. Just open ended questions. A bot could talk to you a while before one would even know it. So maybe it is a been there done that with me...
