curious if anyone here can relate , and if so, how?

'Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer

Thought it scarcely worth his while

To waste much time on the old violin

But he held it up with a smile.

"What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,

"Who'll start the bidden for me?

A dollar, a dollar... now who'll make it two--

Two dollars, and who'll make it three?

Three dollars once, three dollars twice,

"Going for three?"... but no!

From the room far back a gray-haired man

Came forward and picked up the bow,

Then wiping the dust from the old violin

And tightening the loose strings,

He played a melody pure and sweet,

As a caroling angel sings,

The music ceased and the auctioneer

With a voice that was quiet and low

Said, "What am I bidden for the old violin?"

And he held it up with the bow.

"A thousand dollars--and who'll make it three?

Three thousand once, three thousand twice

And going--and gone," said he.

The people cheered, but some of them cried,

"We do not understand.

What changed its worth?" Swift came the reply:

"The touch of the Master's hand."

And many a man with life out of tune,

And battered and torn with sin,

Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd

Much like the old violin.

A mess of pottage, a glass of wine,

A game and he travels on.

He's going once, and going twice--

He's going--and almost gone!

But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd

Never can quite understand,

The worth of a soul, and the change that's wrought

By the touch of the Master's hand.

glad that you saw something in it truesub , when I read it... it made me pause and think about perceptions. Then it took the path I've heard recited so many times on this and most other boards and chats.. "i'm not complete without my Master/Mistress"...

Well Master has taken off the reins on me for this one: yaa I can post ..thankyou Master~!

The first time I read this it was on the front of a card. It was a christian type of card and so I supposed they were referring to Jesus as the Master in the verse. It was at a time in my life when I was recovering from my first marriage and something touched me deep inside while reading it. It gave me a tremendous amount of hope, that no matter how battered about I was I could be healed. No matter how bad people said I was, it was only their perception. It was a really transformative moment. I loved it so much at the time I bought 10 of the cards just in case I ever met anyone who could use one after it having such a profound effect on me.(I still have some of them and this was 17 years ago lol)

Every now and then since then, Ive reread the verse and it has meant different things to me. Since being introduced into Master slave relationship, it meant something entirely different than its original theme. The verse spoke to me of how a Master plays his slave as only he can, it spoke to me of the amazing relationship between Master and slave and how my submissiveness being taken into the hands of a Master plays the most beautiful music....and with a Master I am so much more, not less.

That's lovely, jali.. I had not thought of it in a Christian context, but it makes sense from that perspective as well.

btw - I sent you an email.

I find that part truer than some of the others. I don't particularly feel that my servitude has made me a more valuable individual, but I know my life would be empty without my husband/master. This part, though, strikes the nail on the head. If you've ever tried explaining the lifestyle to a strictly vanilla friend, you typically get blank stares or ridicule. "The foolish crowd", if you will, probably won't ever understand why we do what we do or how it helps us evolve.

Edited to add: I'll be honest, though, on first impression my mind went straight to Christian mythology. And I'll admit that it was with a tiny bit of distaste. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of sinners, sin, and hell.

When she has lived her life amongst the blind it takes a Man with eyes to tell her she is beautiful.

Nothing about the violin had changed, the Master could see her potential and his touch mearly opened the eyes of the blind folks!
