Brain -> Sarah Palin, Creationist? (11/19/2009 1:28:21 PM)

After all this ridiculous insanity with that woman now I find out she really believes in evolution! What was it she said, “will you stop making this stuff up?”

Sarah Palin, Creationist?

Although the former governor’s statements on evolution have been vague, her book appears to put her in the creationist camp. But what about her belief in “microevolution”? Benjamin Sarlin on the origins of Palin’s “nuanced” views.

1) She repeats the common misconception about evolution stating that man descended from apes.  Man and apes descended from a common ancestor.

2) It's amazing to me, that the same scientific method used to demonstrate things like antibiotic resistance, influenza mutations, etc. doesn't apply to mammalian biology.

3) Before the lack of a "missing link" is brought up - we may never find it.  Fossilization takes place under very specific, limited conditions; if the missing link's arboreal, chances are exceedingly small that we'll find it.

You know, all things considered, I'd rather have a President who believed in the fairy tales of the Bible, versus a President who believes that increasing entitlements, government spending, and blowing up the deficit, while increasing fees, raising taxes, and creating new business regulations will stimulate jobs and economic recovery.

However, that's just me...

I appreciate the priority you put on an author's book tour. Please keep us posted, we're all holding our breath waiting to know if her farts smell from the perspective of the toilet.

This reminds me of that moron Dick Durbin's welcoming of Gitmo detainees to Illinois because it would "create jobs" in a low occupancy prison.

Gee Dick, why not just have more guards to guard the same number of inmates. That "creates jobs" too and you don't need al Qaeda there to indoctrinate the rest of the population.

The discussion about the mechanism of the macro-evolution is very credible. Darwin theory has several weaknesses here. Although, we should not assume a politician (Palin, Obama or most others) should have any clue what it is about. I guess, for Palin, it is a smart position to take as it satisfies both sides. Most educated religious people accept evolutionary theory. Human soul given by Got is the only point the Church is not willing to give away. It is hard to take away too.

Brain -> RE: Sarah Palin, Creationist? (11/19/2009 7:37:07 PM)

This is what happens when you get people brainwashed at Bible Camps into believing in God. You get a lot of nonsense that doesn't make any sense. Maybe because she does believe in evolution, even though she doesn't really know it, maybe in the future there is some hope for her after all. But it looks like it's going to take a long time to get all this God delusion out of her mind. Except for her being a major migraine headache to the Republican party, I really would rather not see her in public life in the future. I hope she goes away quietly.

I saw this about her today.

Sarah Palin's 'rogue' Christianity

In her new book Sarah Palin writes that one summer at Bible Camp she "put my life in my creator's hands and trust Him as I sought my life's path." For Palin, this grand divine plan was "a natural progression." She writes. And later, "I don't believe in coincidences."

Which leads me to ask:
What does she believe is God's plan for her? Does she have any free will or is everything preordained. Can she see something coming and change her mind despite God's plans for her?

You would think that God would ask of her to live her life as an example to others of a compassionate loving, caring person. One of the most powerful examples of God's love in the Bible is that of forgiveness. Turning the other cheek. But Palin's book is a screed against everyone who ever done her wrong.

The economy is a very complicated topic and you have another thread for it, but I will point you to this and just say I don't think Geithner agrees with you. It's an interesting debate they had in Congress.

Geithner Asked to Resign "You Gave This Pres an Economy Falling Off The Cliff" Geithner responds!

Normally I would think that was a real snarky comment, but I just read on another thread that she has really bad breath, so maybe it's not far off at all.

Brain -> RE: Sarah Palin, Creationist? (11/19/2009 8:34:25 PM)

I think she's in the news not because of her farts but because she's good for the ratings. I think Fox and MSNBC and CNN get better ratings when she's in the news. Same thing for the newspapers and magazine's, the websites probably get more clicks.

rockspider -> RE: Sarah Palin, Creationist? (11/19/2009 9:09:39 PM)

Sarah Palin. I really have oposing feeling on that woman. Her political views could not be more alien to me. However her personal life, her way of being a mother and a human being i find fascinating. Specially do i admire her "shoot from the hip and fuck the consequences" attitude, which of course have put her in a lot of hot water. I also do believe she is at least an honest woman as far as her motives. That can be admired despite obvious difference in the nature of the motives. Maybe it just is refreshing to see a honest politician. A truly endangered species in our world. We just held a minor election here. To watch the assholes run from their pre election promises less than 24 hours after the election is tragic. And i voted for the prick.

rockspider -> RE: Sarah Palin, Creationist? (11/19/2009 9:16:52 PM)

Creationist. [sm=Groaner.gif] I find them totally without any connection to the ground. I have stood with fossiles in my hand dating 80 million years back. I have dived in the cave where the second oldest humanoid remains was discovered. I will bet my bottom $ there is more of them there but so far no luck. But i have for my effort been allowed to see the real Sterkfontein scull. Not the one on display in the museum. How can anybody believe that the world was created 6000 years BC. with the massive evidence to the contrary. Goes beyond my imagination.

In all seriousness I have to go with b. on this. He seems to truly believe in what he is saying. To him its truth. I think he is wrong but I don't think he is lying.

Yes.
His first claim is a lie. He did not teach high school science for 15 years. That's a documented fact.

Just for fun if you truly believe his stuff, pick the claim of his that you think is the absolute rock solid best one proving his claims and I'll not just refute it but show that he almsot certainly knew it wasn't accurate when he made the claim.

Well, the following would certainly seem to suggest that he's not entirely an honest fellow. [:D]

Since November 2006 Hovind is serving a ten-year prison sentence in the Federal Correctional Institution, Edgefield in Edgefield, South Carolina, after being convicted of 58 federal counts, including twelve tax offenses, one count of obstructing federal agents and forty-five counts of structuring cash transactions.

As for anything he might have to say in the video, he starts off by saying this:

I believe the Bible is the infallible, inspired, inerrant word of the living God.

I can't speak for anyone else, but that's enough for me for me close the window right there.

K.

Awww. I was holding the tax evasion back for later.

Some of the funny parts of that were his claims that all his property and money actually belonged to god and therefore he didn't need to pay taxes on any of it. Then was his claim that all of his employees were actually missionaries who were inspired to serve and he simply gifted them with money on a regular basis.
