I was just thinking about confidence in different people. Like there are many types of confidence displayed in different ways. Some people exhibiting confidence are just kinda pretending and will crash with the slightest little push. Some peoples confidences are attributed to the situation around them, the people around them, their job, their title, their education, their friends and associates, the things they have accomplished in life, all the external things, is that real confidence? Some are quietly confident while others are outspoken. What is confidence? What's it made up of?

I'm posting this to the Ask A Master section as I believe most slaves/submissives expect their Master/Dominant to be self confident...but what does that mean to you, as a Master/Dominant or as a slave/submissive?

P.S. Im not discluding Mistresses from posting here..i just didnt know really where to put the post...so here it is...so Mistresses the questions are for you too.


What a great thread! i used to wonder a lot about confidence. What made a person feel confident, be confident, not just act confident. i've always had to present a confident persona since my work most of my life has been with the public - as  a performer/entertainer. Yet, underneath i felt dishonest somehow and carried a feeling that "one day someone will see through my illusion and call me on my crap."

That day did finally come - but, surprisingly, the person who called me on my crap was me. As a result i found myself feeling like i was treading on very thin ice, and vulnerable to anyone's opinion or judgement. As the expression goes "He who stands for nothing will fall for anything." So i began to sincerely ask myself questions about what is truly important to me in life. After much soul searching i found my own answers.

Knowing, deep within myself, what matters to me in life, who i am and how i conduct myself with others is the very heart and soul of my present confidence. No matter what anyone else thinks of me, or what i experience; no matter how many times i feel i've failed, i can pick myself up and return to this foundation. It steadies me and gives me the confidence and faith to move forward.

Self assurance. Believing in your self. Trusting your knowledge, experiences. Growing from child to adult, being allowed to make mistakes, gaing the strength from falling, picking your self up and finishig the task. Having guidance to learn and be kept on the correct path but not sheltered so you will fall, but when you exceed you gain the rewards. The self awareness you have in what you are doing, exceeds  to the point where there is no doubt. No doubt is confidence in the act being done. Being confident in what you are doing, or what you are- is self confidence. ~BK~

For me, I have always been a control freak, so I am naturally Dominant.  There are days that I wish I wasn't, just to let the world go by and not think about anything else.  But that isn't me, I have always had responsibility of some sort, and I feel that shows in the confidence that I portray to others.  I am a caring and loving person, and I tend to take on everyone elses troubles.  So all in all, I feel that anyone in any position that is happy with that position, does portray confidence in that.  Just my opinion.

Confidence...Interesting how it is made up with the word confide, confide is to be open, to be oneself, fearless of others judgements enough to be oneself, its an inner self respect, self belief. Its made of Self Acceptance once you accept yourself you are unafraid to share that self with others hence your confidence.

To the OP...My personal confidence I feel stems from many areas..simple life experience,knowledge,understanding human nature,a bit of chutzpah,common sense,self awareness,listening (truly listening),and making sure I never let anyone see me sweat (grin).....be well...Tempting

Confidence to me - - knowing i have the ability to accomplish, even that which i do not know how to accomplish. And knowing i have the wherewithall to get through that which i might initially think i can not get through.  It is knowing myself on a deeper level, and trusting in my abilities, intellect, and heart.

Confidences can be many things! The look in your eyes that will stop a slaves in his tracks. The scent of your perfume left on his hands, if you will allow him to touch you! But I think it is what you know not who you know, and oh you do not have to brag about ...........

Confidence is having faith in yourself, being able to try something that seems insurmountable and knowing that if you fail, it is not the end of the world. Confidence often masks a huge fear of failure, but a a confidence with something powerful behind it, a lack of fear, is the truest confidence I can think of. It is the knowledge of
"If I cannot climb the mountain, and cannot go around it...I will go through it"

When I learned to control me I learned I could confidently control my surroundings.  The self-realization has allowed me to control my temper and expand my world.

Confidence is an aphrodisiac to enjoying life.

I would define "confidence" as knowing that you have the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual abilities to handle anything that Life, The Gods, and Random Chaos can throw onto your path.

Ah, the El-Dorado question!

I have a devastating lack of confidence in many areas of my life. I guess my own inner confidence grows when it is fed by pleasant memories and situations where I made the right decisions. To get to this point though, risks have to be taken. At first, the thought of those risks is too much, but by daring to do things differently and then it turning out ok gives me a new foundation on which to build further adventures.
