ORIGINAL: PenOnBeadedChain I have seen these bold-faced, shouted warnings on some profiles, and wondered what exactly was going on that made them feel it was needed. It always radiates a vibe of fear and paranoia and leaves me quite hesitant to correspond with them in any form. Has there been any known case of the media quoting from an individual profile, or actually posting someone's picture in the news? (I'm guessing there would be copyright restrictions against that to begin with.) Which leads to another curiosity - if you would really be harmed or compromised by your picture being made public, then... why on earth are you posting it on a public site that any of your neighbors, co-workers, clients or relatives can join anonymously at any time? Just sayin'. My post was just saying and giving a one example scenario. The point being that IF a person wanted, they could take another's photo and use that photo in an attempt o get false ID...Yes there are people who are damn well paranoid and will take whatever measures they deem necessary to ensure they have as complete privacy as possible. All one has to do is use the search feature to find numerous threads about someone having their picture misappropriated and used in a fake profile scamming money. The odds are that it won't happen yet that possibility still exists. Hell, a poster on this thread stated why they have that statement in their profile, "...most of us would prefer to not have our comments, profiles or pictures featured in studies, and particularly not in the mainstream media." If that is their wish then they have every right to make that statement. eta: I wish to acknowledge that the above quite was courtesy of Llyren. Thank you.
