slavejali -> Learning to OP (3/12/2006 11:11:19 PM)

Well when i first joined these boards I didnt even know what the word OP meant, I had to ask someone...I can very proudly say it means "Original Poster" now .

So, Ive contributed a fair bit to these boards since I joined, I respond to a lot of topics set, Ive even been an OP...now its the being an OP part that Ive got a question about:

Do people expect something from the OP once they start a thread? Example: If I start a thread and ask a question, would the posters expect me to comment again or do people just respond to posts and its ok for the OP to just read the responses? When people start a topic as an OP do they feel responsible to guide the thread as it continues or are they happy for it to just flow on from poster to poster?

Where does the OP fit in once the topic is first posted? And what do posters feel about the OP commenting or not commenting throughout the thread?

Sorry if these are dumb questions.

truesub4u -> RE: Learning to OP (3/12/2006 11:20:46 PM)

First off slavejali.. any question NOT asked is a dumb question in my opinion.. this how we know how things work. So ask what ever.. I do.. even if dumb to others.. <feeling dumb myself knowing you already knew that of course... LOL>

As for the OP.. and this is my own opinion... <ok keep comments to the peanut gallery about opinions and assholes... lol> OP sets out a post.. rant.. vent.. questions.. etc... I feel they are seeking something... what ever it is... even if it just someone else opinion. Or they wouldn't of posted to begin with. I like when the OP comment back ... or ask more questions to someones response. It makes it more interresting.. and I think to a point .. some like to know of the OP is finding their answers.

Although been a few heated debates myself... I really don't like the "flaming". I try to slow it down with some of my stupid humor.... sometimes it angers it more. Can't help that though.

But directing a thread..... nope.. it's gonna stray ... even if it's for 1 post. And no I do not think the OP shoud have to feel they have to direct it.. or keep it on it's course. I think they should sit back and enjoy the reading... and comment all they want... eventually.. either a Mod will bring us a shovel for the dead horse to be buried again... or a few will continue to dig the horse back up again... <archives are sometimes fun to bring back>

But like I said... this is my opinion.... <ok peanut gallery.. bring it on... LOL>

Thanks truesub4u~

I really love these boards, it gives me a sense of community. We dont have anyone around us to share our relationship as it is with. Like, I really love living where we live and I suppose as you get older your need to party diminishes, I guess my idea of having bdsm friends would be just having people around who know what your about, not necessarily partying, so this site helps me with that in a ways.

Hrmm,, i think I need to steer this thread..I went totally off-track lol..back to the OP's original intent please lol

IronBear -> RE: Learning to OP (3/13/2006 1:49:16 AM)

I see OP as two things,

First ~ Original Post

Second ~ Origonal Poster.

When I'm the OP, I'm usually posting something which I think may be of general interest and which I hope to see what others think... It doesn't matter who agrees or disagrees. I'll generally comment in the body of the thread to either clarify my OP or to answer a question asked about it. I will also respond to some posts because it please me to do so. I already have a good relationship with a poster and just enjoy interacting with them or a post merrits some comment.

slavejali -> RE: Learning to OP (3/13/2006 2:28:03 AM)

I'm like that, I dont worry about if someone agrees or disagrees with me. Everyone has different views etc. Thanks for replying Sir~

They aren't dumb. I like when an OP weighs in on their topic, if it's important enough for them to post it, then I would think they'd see something in the responses that would resonate in them, whether positively or not.

lol..............and I think it's ok for the conversation to veer off a bit........what you said is important, about community....I do have a group of kinksters where I am, but I tend to keep to myself a bit, so having the group list (waves to BDSM Beaumont) as well as boards here does help form that community you spoke of.

I like it when the OP responds to the post after people have written. The post is written communication. What a boring convo if there is no response from the OP.

There really isn't a right or wrong answer to your question. People sometimes put out a question or thought and then just read responses. Some participate. When I have posted threads I try to remain involved for a few reasons:

I like to respond and support my point of view.

I like to try to keep the thread from straying too much away from the OP.

I happen to like an intellectual discussion.

There is no expressed responsibility to the OP. It is good to hear them chime in from time to time. I must admit, when they do not I ask myself why and wonder where they went.

proudsub -> RE: Learning to OP (3/13/2006 9:50:13 AM)

I think it depends on the topic. If the OP is seeking advice then yes i would expect them to come back and reply, or at least thank everyone for their replies. I also understand why some may not reply if they were flamed or ridiculed for their post. If it is a topic just thrown up for discussion then it wouldn't bother me if the OP didn't reply.[:)]

RiotGirl -> RE: Learning to OP (3/13/2006 3:49:31 PM)

i usually try and treat the thread like i enjoy when others treat their threads. i like to see the progression of the story line so to speak. The answers to other ppl's questions. But other then that i dunno. Actually wonder the same questions myself. Suppose i'll have to read what others responded to you. =)
