Sanity -> RE: SNL Continues To Rip Obama (11/26/2009 10:09:19 AM)

They're a fairly normal family. What has she done thats so controversial? Most Americans are religious. Most people oppose abortion, etc. She's earthy, like most genuine people are. She speaks matter-of-factly, which is something that more politicians should strive to do.

The hatred for her and her family that has been fanned by the far left media in this country, a media which would include Saturday Night Live, has been by no means impartial

An argument can be made that what the media is doing now towards Obama isn't of a personal nature as it is or was with the Palin family but it is intended to push Obama further and harder to the left in most cases.

You could be right about Michelle Obama's remark, Sanity.  I didn't care for it either, and it came from a well-educated woman who knows how to speak well.  But c'mon....you have to admit yourself...Palin just kept giving them more and more fodder.  She became the circus sideshow...and still does.  And thats by her choice.  We're just the audience.

Networks, Lucy.

During the runup to the election.

It's all fair game. Pointless, perhaps. Entertaining? Depends on the audience. But hardly something to harp on, though I know you'll continue to so until you take your last breath.

Everybody needs a hobby, I guess.

There was plenty to go after Michelle Obama on. Her statement that Obama's nomination was the first time she was proud to be an American. Or they could have done skits with their whole family seated in Jeremiah Wright's church.

There wasn't any lack of material at all.

Actually, Sanity, one of the last skits that SNL did before the election showed him doing a variety show, with him and Michelle singing, Solid like Barack", and with the Rev Wright and that nutcase Ayers singing along.  So, no, they didn't show his family at a Wright sermon but they didn't sheer away from Wright either.

FR

....for any political party to claim that a given satirist is either for or against their agenda is to completely misunderstand satire. SNL, like the far superior UK magazine 'Private eye', goes after whoever happens to be in the news. That's what satire is. To try to read any agenda into satire is to be the sort of person who seriously misunderstands it.

Oh, and Sanity......minus several million points for blatant hypocrisy. SNL are dupes of the liberals when they attack your people, but somehow attacking Obama is evidence of your political agenda coming true. Either put your hands up to your error, or shut up. To keep on defending yourself here is just embarassing.

Agreed. Any true satirist would for example look at this thread and fall over laughing. Why isn't it in the Humor section? To think that SNL or anything like it drives (or forms) anybody's political agenda means you must be watching too much television.

Most people see it for what it is. It just uses politics as one vehicle to (try to) entertain. Who cares if they (appear to) mock Palin more. Any student of comedy can see she gives better ammunition. She couldn't get her ass on the show fast enough in a lame attempt to prove herself  'hip'.

Sanity -> RE: SNL Continues To Rip Obama (11/26/2009 11:31:15 AM)

Maybe embarrassing to you...

Again, when SNL was attacking Palin it was her family they went after, during the campaign. With Obama they're going after policy decisions after the election.

Sanity -> RE: SNL Continues To Rip Obama (11/26/2009 11:33:55 AM)

I think that was more of a "roll with the  punches" sort of thing.

If she had to roll with the punches it's because she leads with her chin.

During the campaign McCain looked like he needed a nap, Obama went around talking sense and Palin became the poster woman for airheaded housewives everywhere.

Who would YOU satirise?

Now that's over and there is (relatively) less fodder, yes they go after Obama and because yes his family isn't a bad soap opera, they go after policy.

They must be crazy.

Louve00 -> RE: SNL Continues To Rip Obama (11/26/2009 12:19:23 PM)

You keep saying that SNL is attacking Palin's family.  To which episode do you refer?  I recall them picking at her during her interview with Katie Couric ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE2gE-VVjBI&NR=1  and watch that video too, not only does it show SNL's take on it, it also shows the actual interview with Couric...very entertaining, indeed lol).

Then they showed her and Hilary talking/debating/whatever together ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdDqSvJ6aHc ),

Then showed her (or Tina Fey as her) and John McCain (on SNL) together.  This is the skit where she breaks away and announces herself as "going rogue" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPWBY-zmnKk&feature=related

And we can't forget the time that Sarah Palin, herself, went on SNL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG1g5qvgtSg&feature=related

I don't see any of it as attacking her family.  I see SNL just flat out picking on her and her alone (well, except for John McCain, too).

So, when in the campaign did SNL go after her family?

Sanity -> RE: SNL Continues To Rip Obama (11/26/2009 12:29:19 PM)

One example..

Louve00 -> RE: SNL Continues To Rip Obama (11/26/2009 12:41:53 PM)

Ok, I stand corrected.  They had a bad night.  But as Tina Fey said herself in that youtube link you posted...."SNL goofs on.....everyone".  And if you listened to that whole link you just posted, then I hoped you paid real good attention to the last minute (60 seconds or so) of it.

That last minute or so explains exactly how seriously I take comedy.

Ah, there it is - the thread our resident Archivist refused to reveal, which provides the necessary context to properly judge the quote which was attributed to me:

A quick glance almost instantly reveals exactly why she refused to reveal where she found that quote!
