So for those of you, like myself who regularly encorporates sounds or music into their d/s experiences - what type of music do you like to use to set the right mood for the sensation?

Some nice, hard or dark music for a really sexy, sleazy, sweaty, hair pulling, crying out into the belly of the animal, hungry, colorblurred, staggering zipless fuck that leaves you splay drained, fuse blown and a total train wreck of the body and mind that you’ll rewind and play over and over in your head for years to come.

Maybe some record played vintage for that soft, sensual, emotional evening or perhaps back to the old faithful, classical from Strauss, Handel, Tchaikovsky or Mozart for a bit more erotic, involved, intricate, intellectual feel.

Personally I enjoy it all, just depends on the sensation intended and my personal mood...but what is you're weapon of choice?

Because my style incorporates a roller coaster ride of sensation, I like music that starts off slow & raunchy, something to leave nail marks to, then ramping up to dark and animalistic with a deep, almost tribal beat and coasting back down, then up again.

As bottom I prefer things like Enya or a dance mix.

i like Prince for sensory play. Prince has a lot of erotic lyrics in his music.

Heavy play? i have no idea what is playing....it varies to His mood on that one. lol. i am not listening to the music at least. Though a good techno type music if it is a fast paced scene.

As for romantic-sensual side...i am a sucker for Barry White. That voice makes me melt.

Have a great evening and may it be filled with many smiles,

For whatever reason my dom prefers Beck or Led Zepplin (I am not really familiar with either one so the spelling may be incorrect). Those are alright, although the lyrics aren't really fitting.
I prefer Elvis, but I am a big-time Elvis fan so I like listenting him all the time

Actually...some of the best scenes with Thorns have been from just listening to the radio. I do remember one scene where it was all Motown...was awesome!! Some of the other stuff we very much enjoy also....the head banging..down and dirty..get in your face..slam me to the wall music brings out many different things, as well as the mere sound of classical. We love it all.

I'm pretty eclectic, so I listen to a pretty wide variety of music when I play. One night, it may be Bach...another night could be Type O Negative, Grand Funk Railroad, or Methods of Mayhem. I don't really plan out my scenes as I enjoy going with whatever Evil comes to mind at the time. The music will sometimes play a part in where the scene is going. White Zombie or Marylin Manson might stir up some good old fashioned sadism in me, while some Sara McLuaghlan may inspire more sensual play. I don't really pay attention to what is playing, rather, I slip into the rhythm without much thought.

For me, the music depends on the goal. For sensual play, I love Eurasian/Indian music. For heavier sensory overload or pain-oriented play, or even just happy rutting, Marilyn Manson has worked well. And, oddly, for just light, fun stuff, They Might Be Giants is number one. *grins*

Though I do have a fantasy revolving around the song "Spin, Spin Sugar" by the Sneaker Pimps. Great damn song, that. Pretty good fantasy, too, and one of the ones that's plausible and executable, with the right company. *beams* Maybe at Leather Retreat next year. *sighs happily*

edited postscript:

Upon a later reading of this, I can only come to one inevitable conclusion. Damn, but I'm a dork. *giggles*

Any music that we can feel, will be used.

For Angel, music is more important than I could ever explain. It is used in my life... and when I work, and for relaxation, and for play.

Its my drug of choice.*soft smiles*

That is how it is with me actually, music is such a large portion of every aspect of my life it would be impossible for this to not be a very important part of my practices as well.

Ok Jacean... that description just got me panting ;) Damn boy!

And yes, the deep, dark, belly of the beast type music is reserved for my sadistic experiences.

Total sadism however would be playing a little yoddelling!

For the more sensual experiences, I'm into more into mellow alternative. Depeche Mode comes to mind (the lyrics are quite appropriate). Placebo, Interpol, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club...

There is also some very sensual trip-hop such Portishead & Tricky. Massive Attack is way up there. A specific album Ki-Oku by DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo ihas some tracks to make you melt.

In terms of classic, I have a penchant for the eastern europeans. Dvorak & Bartok to name a few.

Oh... and I wanted to pose the following question... what about sound as torture? I mentionned the yoddelling, but it can be taken even further, non?

Most of the time I will fill up my cd player and put it on random. I will get naything from Shonen Knife to Stevie Ray Vaughn to ACDC to The Beatles. Bdsm seems to go well with so many types of music. I would rather not choose.

Back when I went to my first parties with the local munch cowd I was surprized to see how popular Enya was. Everyone seemed to own every Enya CD. Thar seemed odd to me because Enya was background music at the clinic or for massage for me and just seemed wrong. Since then it's grown on me a tiny bit. Enigma seems a bit better.

Depeche Mode was the music of my childhood and I can't listen to it "in the background" without focussing on the music quite a bit so it doesn't get used for play very often. On the other hand, there is a series of CDs called "Trancemode Express" that are awesome. Classic DM covered by trance and ambiance artists.

For any kind of flogging, I'm a big fan of Ramstein. Tons of that darkness and energy afmvdp mentioned. Other hardcore stuff like Drowning Pool and Tool also works for flogging or any kind of public play where the pace is usually quick and short. For elaborate bondage or more involved scenes that stuff is too intense.

I never tried Floyd, but I think I will. I have several "play mixes" on CD with choice bits from Rasputina, Lords of Acid, Moby, Love and Rockets, Leonard Cohen, NIN, White Zombie, etc. I mix mellow and intense and sometimes times punctuations in play to certain songs.

The soundtracks to the second and third Matrix movies make good background play music. The ones with the orchestrations and incidental music, not the songs by actual pop artists.

Well afmvdp,

I prefer current dance techno pop kind of music for hard playing to keep my mind off and allow it to wander a little, but i have also made new age types of cds to play to and am compiling songs from my cd collection, before i had a hard disk die i had found a lot of songs about possession but never got to nake the cd, oh well i wil keep at it.

I'm glad that someone finally mentioned Depeche Mode!

For me, there are two general categories: songs that are "on-topic," and the maybe ten thousand other pieces of music that I have around. I listen to music much of the time, so listening to it during a particular activity is rarely noteworthy. Music is almost the rule rather than the exception, and choice may be somewhat random, or based on mood + "What haven't I heard lately?" It could be anything from Arensky to Einsturzende Neubauten to Bhangra to The Doors, I like most genres.

But then there's the "on topic." If I'm listening to "Rough Sex" by Lord of Acid, DM's "A Question of Time," or even "I Like My Baby's Puddin'" by Wynonie Harris, there is probably a reason for that choice.

Wow...wasn't expecting an EN reference...thought I was the only one. haha. Then again for sound assault I've found most people tend to get their brains enraged by Venetian Snares at a nice high range.

Honestly I can go from Johnny Cash to Winterkalte. I save the Rammstein, Wumpscut and Hanzel Und Gretyl though for when I'm in a germanic mode which is a much more sexual moment...with Rasputina, Portishead, Pi Soundtrack and such for much more sensational oriented work, when Sinatra or Mozart comes on though...haha...well...just pray you're a masochist cause it's time for the medical table and the labcoat. >:)

I'd never really thought about Sinatra, but if Bing Crosby could work in A Clockwork Orange, why not? Just remind me to avoid playing Mack the Knife too much.

My favorite, though, doesn't fit into the music category at all. It's the sound of other people having a great time. If a lot of other people here feel the same, and engage in occasional audio recording, it might even be fun to put together a compilation CD to share. If that tickles peoples fancy, I guess I should start another thread...
