It may be affected by a rose tinted view influenced by a childhood that was relatively happy until then - but I would like to nominate 1977 as the year in which life was best. Life was simple, we were happier than we realised and happier than we've been since.

What do you think? Which year (or period of years) would you nominate as the best in which to live?

Hmm, interesting and original question this morning. I wish I could give you an answer though. I do not think I have ever had a period of years or even a single year in which life had been the best for me. I have always simply existed day by day.

Good question..I would have to pick not a year, but a state of mind.

And that would be before I discovered true heartbreak.

2008 - when i was truly sure that Sir loved and lusted after me, and i was secure in those attitudes. And before his diagnosis of cancer.
After the kids were grown and no longer my immediate responsibility, and i could turn them loose with no guilty. It was a VERY good year!

and the only reason 2009 isn't elected is because of the worry of Sirs diagnosis - if you overlook that, it is as good as 2008.

2010.

Why? Because several long-term issues will be resolved one way or another that have caused me stress and in general have hampered progress. Probably second half of the year more than likely.

Now, I probably just screwed myself and will end up blind, or paralyzed by some rare disease. LOL.

As far as the past, I can remember good days, times, or events  I don't think I've ever had a year that was just great though. It's almost a good thing as people sometimes get locked into a habit of longing to the past and what they've lost or let go of, instead of looking forward.

I hope I can say 2011, if you ask next year.

2004 when I first met Master. It was the year I moved south to be near him. Rented a flat in his home town which I loved. First relationship where I felt totally at ease right from the start. Although we are still as happy that seemed such a special time.

Worst year by far would be 2008 when I was told the brain tumour I had was inoperable and I had six months to live. Luckily we found a surgeon who would did operate and it was fine but the devastation that caused remains.

SUMMER 2004
I rented a cabin by a river...spent a whole summer ALONE..
with deer..bear..birds...
I chopped wood..carried water...had to let myslef down a cliff to the cabin..

There was a glass sun room over the river..I filled it with red geraniums..
I did not have to wear clothes...
I lay in the sun;
bathed in the river..

I have never felt such peace and serenity

the grasses rustled....I heard the water running...wolves howled

I'd have to say the 2007/2008 time frame.  Sure, ups and downs happened, but that was the period that My little poly family was coming together.

I have high hopes for 2010 as well.  No spoilers here.  You folks will just have to wait and see how it turns out.

I think perhaps 2002.  I had a job, Meriadoc was still alive, I took several fun road trips, and I learned what it felt like to be truly loved.  Sadly, this was also the year I learned about my ex's continued infidelity, but overall it was probably the best year of my life.

Today!  Today is the best!  I have two wonderful, productive, intelligent, healthy children.  I have two delightful grandsons and another grandson on the way.  My parents are alive and while not in the best of health, they are doing fine.  I have the best Master on the planet.  With the exception of my parents, we are all gainfully employed, suffer no health issues and have joy and love and a sense of security.  I have the best job in the world and yet today I am being paid to do whatever the hell I want to.  My pumpkin pies turned out perfectly, the turkey looks like a Normal Rockwell picture says it should look.  Today is the best because today IS.  Yesterday is gone, tomorrow isn't here.  Today is the best day ever!

I would have to say this year. Although it was full of ups and downs. I am physically, mentally, and emotionally in a the best place I have ever been. I have a wonderful set of doctors who help me. I also have a wonderful support system that includes a wonderful man (NM) who understands my disorders as well as two beautiful well rounded and intelligent children. Although we have a small apartment it is ours and its better than where we were a yr ago. I am no longer fighting for my disability, it only took 1.5 yrs but i finally got it . This year I also learned to love my own skin and to see how truly strong I am.

There have been several for me the late 60's and early 70's, though some parts were traumatic, then the 29 years of marriage, and the past 3 years with me doing the phoenix dance; oh wait, I guess all time is the best for me, though sometimes have been traumatic.

In under 25 days (not sure the exact date just yet, but, the pet WILL be back before christmas)  To me, unless it's a shitty day, life is best now.  I try to make it a point to make life a grand thing worth living, even and especially finding the greatest joys in the smallest things.

Now.

We have a very healthy and happy daughter. Myself and partner are together 5 years (we live, parent & work together) and it still seems like we only met yesterday. We have money worries like everyone else but I am happier now than ever :-)

I hope it stays like this and I dont answer a similar question in 20 years time and say "Oh, 2009 was my year ............."

Today I live quite well, I would not give up that security.

But it would be nice to visit my high school days where so many things in life were a HUGE laugh!   I laughed so hard.    Then meeting my first love- I smiled so long my face actually hurt.    I also miss those long talks with Mr R, with Nancy, with Marge, with old friends, with my dad.  I miss the camping trips as a kid. I even miss traveling to PA back then.  I miss the sounds of laughter at my grandparents. The sound of the door closing.  The smell of coffee.

I also miss my days at the one job where I got a view of a field.

I would go back to these- but would not stay too long as I have more security today.

probably '78 to 83. In college, no responsibility except grades, diving, beer and sex not necessarily in that order.

For me life is about moments. I honestly do not think about extended periods of time being really wonderful or horrible. I know that there were times when it just felt horribly miserable but I also am sure that during those times there were moments of joy.

Over all, I just really love life and living.........all of it.
