Woops. I meant United Fruit, which, I just checked, is now Chiquita. They were directly involved in the Guatemala coup.

I haven't read this on any of my Communist sources (ThinkProgress, WhiteHouse.gov, HuffPo)

Can you provide sources?

I'm going mainly off the book 'Bitter Fruit: The Story of the American Coup in Guatemala'. I didn't find a Wikipedia article, so here's the amazon link.

Wikipedia: 1954 Guatemalan coup

OK, yeah the 1954 coup is pretty well documented as being part of the US corporate multinationals.

I thought you were referring to this one.

This one I'm only speculating, but it seems plausible. He raised the minimum wage like a true pinko.

People are getting sick and tired of this krud. Like who wants war?

Yeah really.

In recent years, Venezuela has bought over $4 billion in weapons from Russia, including 24 Sukhoi fighter jets... When Chavez returned from his latest trip to Russia in September, he said Russia had agreed to lend Venezuela $2.2 billion to purchase 92 tanks... Between 2006 and 2008, Moscow delivered a total of about 59 military helicopters to Venezuela

LOL, a few billion in Russian gear? that is fucking parade and uniform and brass band shit, nothing to go on a war party with. Venezuela has a right to a standing army, I see nothing in our constituion that says the other countries on this planet have no right to throw 10 15 billion against our half a trill a year.

this is old, but they aint even guatemala yet.

Oh hell, didn't say there was. Just seems easy enough to imagine why Columbia might like the idea of havin' a few US bases on its territory. But hey, South American politics isn't my strong suit (or even close). I'll go with ya.

Well Kirata, that was my way earlier but perhaps too subtle point we are pretty much invited, and we have vital interests in the last of the worlds oil, and it is cute that it will be in a more readily defensable place when it is and it would seem as though others think they do have a vital interest in the future, regardless of the hemisphere question....so why not dig in before the war?

sounded like from a couple people that we were invading.

just doing due diligence.
