yeah that's it... you can always take up religion and then you can just simply blame God for all the shit... He does it on purpose you know... He has a wicked sense of humor... you've GOT to laugh and love it... that is the challenge, that is what makes being here worth while... swim man, swim

Eek - I'd hate for anyone to think I was actually suggesting either God or Religion as a solution - I should have omitted the"God" bit from the quotation - (I thought that adding "[or whatever]" made the religious overtone optional. The quotation stands on its own in any case.

That said "God" has helped some people.

Just not me, I'm an evangelical Atheist ;-)

K it sounds like you had a difficult upbringing and it is understandable that you mistrust others.  I want you to know that I admire you for feeling so strongly about the injustices in the world.  In some of the instances you mentioned and many others that happen every day people stand by and watch and do nothing until it is too late.

If I may make a gentle suggestion though?  Slowly allow yourself to trust just one person with a teeny part of yourself, then with a little more and so on.  And then allow yourself to trust another person.  It won't always work out well but all you need is to find that one person whom you can trust totally. Speaking as someone else who has a lifetime of trust issues and still struggles with it, I do know that it can get better.

I wish you peace

Exactly.

Swim, or drown. And OP, I haven't seen you mention anything worth drowning for. Fuck that. Take the bullshit and throw it out of your life. You can do that.

I thought I was very clear that he's 18, and should grow up IMHO.

NZ, forgive me if I'm stepping on your toes but...

If you expect him to have angst because of his age, how is he going to magically transcend that beyond the further passage of time?

-Aqua

Of course we don't just magically grow up, with the passage of time. We are the controllers of our own thoughts, feelings and actions. We can make choices that help us grow, or we can get stuck in an emotional quagmire. The OP seems stuck, to me.

I like to keep things short and to the point, when I can. Read my whole post. The point was to give the OP a wake up call about how he's coming across- and what he can do to fix it.

I read it. I'm just of the opinion that further hostility isn't the approach in this situation. When I was an angsty teen, some stupid adult telling me to grow up just pissed me off more.

Life experiences usually temper or mold things. Normally, the process would begin at the first ecstatic relationship. Should that end, the angst usually gets replaced (mostly) by the fixation on reclaiming the same high. Granted, that could mean (if things go poorly) that angst turns into desperation...but odds are he'll find a sufficiently comfortable match in time and that will alleviate the angst. You can't really be a misanthrope (in any negative sense) when you're in a good relationship.

And, just to confuse him, you'll have threads immediately following that castigation talking about how most could not see themselves submitting to a pre-20er because they need to 'grow' more.

Now that's a catch 22 recipe that would fuel angst in anyone.

The OP seems stuck, to me.

Stuck in what? A normal reaction? An emotional thought process that is disillusioned with things that are (for the most part) worth being disillusioned about?

You demean his views for their "glass half empty" position and then run off a 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' bit ("plant seeds of love, hope, peace, joy, etc. and cultivate them") that's just as vacuous in substance (and perhaps a tad more idealistic). Maybe what he's "done to make the world a better place" is pointing out a few ways in which it isn't.

Apart from that, the only issue ends up being his own perceptions and how they can change...and those will happen in time.

Oh yeah. I love it.

- You can't be old enough to be my Dad.
- But you have to be old enough to have tons of life experience and have "mastered" your life.

It's like the whole "I want my woman to be a fanastic cock-sucker but she can't have practiced on anyone else first" thing.

I don't mean to sound hostile- just blunt. The OP is really spouting a negative attitude, while yet asking for feedback. So I'm holding up a mirror for him. I stand by my original post. The OP is not here complaining about it, so it seems he understands that I'm trying to help. If he can think of a better way that I could say things, that would get through to him better, I'd love to hear from him.

And yes, you two are damn cute!

*giggles* I will show him the dancing banana. He's had the Valyraen account for while but has only just started posting really. Though I don't if the board is ready for the both of us. He has my sense of humor...

Well, friend, I agree with what many have said about people being inherently flawed as well as about being responsible for what you put out. But my real reaction isn't about you and others but you and yourself.

I have big honking issues, we all do, especially here. But you aren't just the circumstance you inherit. You're clearly smart. You're clearly articulate, and with enough attention and self discipline and self insight to compose a pretty complex message about yourself.

In other words you have the gifts you need to deal with this. Use them. Alot of people don't. Think about it as a power exchange with yourself. You're giving the other you all the power right now. Take it back and start deciding, little by little, moment to moment, who it is you're going to be.

Good fortune, bro.
