Estring -> Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 2:15:02 PM)

CBS is conducting a poll asking if President Obama's head should be on Mt. Rushmore. Lol! That is probably the funniest thing I've heard in a long, long time.

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 2:16:58 PM)

I laughed as much as I did at the suggestion that GWB be there instead... yep funny, altho not for the same reasons I suspect:)

Yo Stringster!!!!!!!!!

Glad you came back, R.

This sounds like something CBS would come up with.  They would have Obama's picture on everything if they could.  This is another classic dumbass idea...

CelticSubM -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 2:27:54 PM)

The whole concept of Mt Rushmore is so bizarre and ludicrous. It's difficult to think of anything that could make it more so. There's kitsch, and then there's kitsch on a monumental scale. But to turn a mountain into kitsch? I am hopeful that Obama and future presidents will have enough aesthetic taste, enough sense for the environment, that they discourage any efforts to add their images to this monstrosity.

Why would they want to do that?
Oh wait, he did win the Nobel peace prize! ("Pffffft!")

I liked visiting Mt. Rushmore as a child. I'll take my daughters to see it.
Crazyhorse was wild to see too.

DomImus -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 3:32:05 PM)

CBS should have asked those polled to name the four presidents already on Mt. Rushmore and post the percentage who answered correctly.

Perhaps they could find room for him on Stone Mountain in Atlanta as a consolation prize.

I can name 3 outta the 4.

Washington, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and.....Jefferson?

dcnovice -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 6:05:26 PM)

The poll, conducted for 60 Minutes and Vanity Fair, listed Obama as one of a number of options for a hypothetical fifth spot on Mt. Rushmore. Other choices included Andrew Jackson, FDR, JFK, and Ronald Reagan. JFK was the leading choice.

You can learn more at the Vanity Fair site.

dcnovice -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 6:08:08 PM)

You can take the poll yourself at the 60 Minutes site.

HAHAHA! That's funny because of the KKK and the lynching black people and the horrible racist atrocities associated with the Stone Mountain memorial....*wipes away a tear*Man's inhumanity against man is soooo hilarious!!!! Unwarranted hatred, and cowardice are too.

For those that didn't get the "joke" these pesters, err.... i mean posters are referring to this:
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/jimcrow/stories_org_kkk.html
quote:

William J. Simmons, a former Methodist preacher, organized a new Klan in Stone Mountain, Georgia in 1915 as a patriotic, Protestant fraternal society. This new Klan directed its activity against not just blacks, but immigrants, Jews, and Roman Catholics. The Ku Klux Klan grew rapidly from there and had more than two million members throughout the country by the mid-1920s. D.W. Griffith's film THE BIRTH OF A NATION, which glorified the Klan and denigrated blacks, was used as a recruiting tool.

Although the Klan still reverted to burning crosses, torturing and murdering those whom they opposed, the organization became a powerful political force in the 1920s.

Torture and murder are just so witty. How urbane and completely original is such humor!

lronitulstahp -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 6:19:38 PM)

btw...CBS should really be focusing on something that is ACTUALLY news!!!! Not making up completely improbable suppositions and calling them polls....wtf????

i have a poll idea i think i'll send them....it involves the Death Star, Lando Calrissian, some Storm Troopers, Rebel Officers...and healthcare reform.

Marc2b -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 7:20:14 PM)

I'm still not sure if I'm happy about Theodore Roosevelt being on it.

Seriously, Washington and Jefferson help to found the country and Lincoln held it together. Roosevelt (arguably) may have done some good things but nothing rising to the level of the other three.

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/1/2009 7:20:24 PM)

Tulip, I did not know that history...thankyou.
Apart from that, I would say JFK wrt DC's post

Just wondering if one of our frequent "poll" makers has the poll job at CBS?

The connection is a very close one to Mt Rushmore....Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mt Rushmore, was originally commissioned for the Stone Mountain project. Borglum was a member of the KKK and a member of its Imperial Kloncilium.

servantforuse -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/2/2009 7:12:24 AM)

Where would they find a black rock that big ?

popeye1250 -> RE: Obama On Mt. Rushmore? (12/2/2009 9:34:05 AM)

Looks like Ronald Reagan is way ahead of the rest of the pack!
I don't understand why people would want JFK on it.
