Well Tazzy. Never use nurses pay for any country to country comparison. Some countries seems to think nursing is a calling and pay accordingly, while others think it is a highly skilled profession and pay accordingly. I lived many years in South Africa and nurses there was paid a pittance. Much lower than my electricians. Here in Denmark i doubt there is many nurses with an anual pay less than mine. These variations is globally screewing up the picture if you want good information unless you are a nurse and considers taking employment elsewhere. For a better indication, use the socalled McDonald index. Not oficial, neither 100 % acurate, but a realy exellent indicator for a good thumbsuck.

Brain, this doesn't make sense. Even if you could find a job in Mexico or Cent. America how much is it going to pay, $40-$60 a week?
I read an article that said the "machiadora" factories along the border paid $25 per week with "management" making "double" that.
Even "professionals" don't fare much better in those countries.
It's only a "good deal" if you're *retired* and have a good income. They're not going to pay you more money just because you're "American."
Many Filipino military retirees go back to the Phillipines to retire and live like kings on their retired pay.
People may be going to those countries to retire yes but not to work.

I know several people who have taken well paying jobs in Mexico.  Most of it is manufacturing and management jobs, but don't kid yourself they are not making $25 a week.  I know one person who works in Mexico and the company has a large number of Americans.  When the Swine Flu scare rolled through Mexico City they chartered a large private plane to fly all of their American workers and families back to the US until everything settled out.  The plane was packed and that was just the ones who left.  There were more Americans that stayed.  I can promise you, none of them are making $25 a week.  Your talking about the Mexican workers not the Americans they hire down.

Status: offline 		The general rule regarding social issues: one can "prove" anything by picking examples that support their point.
Secondly, people with resources and wealth can choose any country they want for comfortable life; poor people are better off in richer countries where things like established minimum wage, low cost housing programs, child credits, general conditions for living environment,  and so on .... help.  I guess if you are a higher level business manager or an accountant you can find a good position in some US outsourced production in Mexico. I have heard locals do terrible job in these areas due to general corrupt and sloppy practices that are rooted in the system.

All I can say is good riddance to these high salary appetites.  Medical employees in this country are going to be in for one hell of a shock, Obamacare or not.  We have NAFTA'd the world, but these folks, like college employees, think they are immune.

This country needs to tackle the runaway costs of dying, Obamacare or not.  You can have single moms on welfare all their lives, able bodied people wrongly collecting disability all their lives, and they never will collect a million dollars of taxpayer money in their life.  Yet retirees who worked hard all their lives ARE taking a million dollars of medicare taxpayer money in their 11th hour because they don't know how to die with dignity, they demand heroic medical procedures with limited benefit from a private healthcare system with the government footing a bill loaded with excess costs.  Why should a person in their 11th hour need 25 specialists?  These are the doctors embedded within our system that need to go.

If we move from the USA to another country that speaks a different language then it should be expected that we learn the language of that new country. If someone moves here from another country that speaks a different language it is then only reasonable to expect them to learn our language. I wonder how many businesses in France have "Appuyez sur l'une pour le français" as the opening line of their greeting?

Most Americans have no need to learn a different language. In many European countries you can drive a few hours in any direction and be in an area that speaks a different language... maybe one of four different language depending on what directions your drove. In the USA you can drive literally for days and never encounter anything but English - or Spanish if you run into someone who moved here but refused to learn another language.

Status: offline 		I may be wrong (adding to my previous thought), it may be the time has come to make a move as jobs are not coming to America.
Even Robert Reich thinks high unemployment will be US long term problem. Also, it will be coupled with cuts in wages and benefits for workers.
