"Professors are the most liberal people in the world." Funny! You can tell that the author didn't go to business school!
I had a professor who told us on the very first day of class; I will teach you how to be a Capitalist and BURY your competition!"
Naturally I called him "Professor Kruschov" after that.

People, church leaders, etc have been rewriting the bible to suit their agendas for centuries. What's new?

Kirata -> RE: Rewriting the bible to suit your agenda (12/3/2009 1:23:47 PM)

Let me begin by saying that I'm not a "neocon," lest I appear to be accepting your invitation as posted. Heh. [:D]

I just want to comment that this kind of nonsense simply continues a long tradition. King James gave the translators instructions intended to guarantee that the new version would conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its beliefs about an ordained clergy. Creating the Canon in the first place was the product of some highly convenient selective work. And literary analyses of various texts strongly suggest the contribution of multiple authors even before the Church got its hands on them.

Nowhere else in the world do we find anything like organized Christianity's prediliction for elevating scriptual authority above the human heart and the still voice within. It is, on its face, evidence of an emptiness that offers no hope for re-connecting us (Latin: re-ligio) with the ground of our being. And if invested with scriptural authority, this new Conservative Bible will be no more misleading in that respect than the one we already have.

K.

How I would re-write the Bible:

In the begining, God created the universe. Then he took off and hasn't been seen since. Have a nice day.

SpinnerofTales -> RE: Rewriting the bible to suit your agenda (12/3/2009 5:05:29 PM)

I have been planning some additions to the new neo con bible:

1) On the sermon on the mount, Jesus said "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth...without having to pay inheritance tax"

2) In Egypt, God did not deliver the Jews from slavery. Instead he lowered payroll taxes, abolished the minimum wage and let market forces insure that slavery became un-economical.

3) In Genisis, it will be clear that God created heaven and earth in seven days...without any use of union labor.

4) The destruction of Sodom and Gamorrah will be referred to as "The Defense of Family Decimation"

5) As he hung dying on the cross, Jesus will no longer be quoted as saying "Forgive them, Father. They no not what they do." he will instead say "Prosecute them. Find them guilty. Do not giveth them parole."

6) It will be made clear that the reason Adam and Eve was thrown out of the garden of eden was for trying to institute the first government food assistance program.

7) All references to "the wicked" will be changed to the proper translation: "Illegal Aliens"

8) Sacrifices unto God will be reported to be cut from a lamb to half a lamb as government becomes smaller to aid the lambing industry.

9) The term "witch" in the term "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" will be replaced with the more correct translation: Liberal.

10) The term beast in Revalation will be changed to Obama and his sign shall be the donkey.

I can't wait to read this thing.

These people don't believe in God, all they care about is making money. They don't care about the environment or the poor, corporate welfare for the wealthy and capitalism for the poor. That's what this is about: MONEY.

I used to be a conservative and I loved Reagan and Thatcher but conservatives these days have become a party of loonies so I hope more of this happens:

Andrew Sullivan: I'm Breaking From The Right

Reacting to prominent conservative blogger Charles Johnson's announcement that he would not follow the right wing off a cliff, Andrew Sullivan is offering his own reasons for parting with the movement.

Johnson, who blogs at Little Green Footballs, wrote on Monday that fanatic politicians, racism, sexism, anti-Islamism, hate speech, conspiracy theories and other troubling trends on the right wing have led him to make a formal break.

"The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff," he concluded. "I won't be going over the cliff with them."

Andrew Sullivan, though not as consistent a conservative as Johnson, felt compelled to emphasize his own separation from the right wing. Among other things, he writes:
I cannot support a movement that holds that purely religious doctrine should govern civil political decisions and that uses the sacredness of religious faith for the pursuit of worldly power.

I cannot support a movement that is deeply homophobic, cynically deploys fear of homosexuals to win votes, and gives off such a racist vibe that its share of the minority vote remains pitiful.
I cannot support a movement which has no real respect for the institutions of government and is prepared to use any tactic and any means to fight political warfare rather than conduct a political conversation.

TheHeretic -> RE: Rewriting the bible to suit your agenda (12/3/2009 9:24:56 PM)

I'll pretend this question isn't specifically targeted, as seen above.

I see a hobby among smart people, and a press release that got picked up.  They'll amuse themselves bickering for a time, then self publish 10,000 copies they can't get rid of.  So what?  Should we pass some sort of law that would prevent it?  I would have a much larger problem with that.

Besides, would anyone prefer these religious crazy people were using their time figuring out ways to blow shit up, like some among another religion of peace?

I thought it was stupid when spinner started a thread about it http://www.collarchat.com/m_2838683/mpage_1/tm.htm and I still think it's a stupid idea.

I guess it just proves that there are idiots on the right side of the fence too. Does this surprise you?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Rewriting the bible to suit your agenda (12/4/2009 6:47:06 AM)

Folks, to eliminate any miscommunication here, when I said "neocons, what do you think of this" My tongue was DEEP in My cheek.  I just cant wait to see what happens when the Southern Baptists, who seem to believe that the abovementioned KJV (King James Version) is literally the work of God himself as in he actually took over the writing hands of the scribes that wrote it like it was a quill and parchment ouiji board or something.   Gonna be interesting if this thing hits the mainstream.  Only good thing is that if the far right wingnuts are fighting each other, they will leave the other 80% of the country alone.  (ya think 80% is too low a number?)

Yeah, but in each case, they were divinely inspired by God, who was speaking directly to them, the chosen people.

Apparently, God changes His mind frequently.

Sooner of later, God will inspire a CM Bible...
