Status: offline 		One year, for my ex, (whose Father was Jewish, and mother was a shiksa) I got an undecorated wreath, then added a string of lights with Menorahs ...

The ex liked it (Until we split).  I gave it to a Jewish girlfriend of mine.. and she informed me that the wreath was actually insulting to Jews.. something about (and forgive me, it's been almost 10 yrs) there was some kind of negative association with tha pine boughs?  SO she asked me if it was ok if she pulled teh lights and tossed the wreath..

(I told her that I had given it to her, so she could do whatever she wished with it... )

Status: offline 		You would have to see it to understand. 300 lights it not a lot when they are built into a tree, and those lights are really the primary color since 90% of the ornaments are glass stars and snowflakes.

Status: offline 		Usually I put 2 strings of mini lights up to feel festive.  However- they are broke and in a gob of wires so entangled it will never be untangled.

It is too bad because I have numerous Christmas trees in my yard that I planted.

Status: offline 		My boys have no interest in decorating, but my daughter and her friend came over on tuesday to decorate the tree, We had a couple of glasses of wine, some christmas songs and lots of laughs. Every ornament that the kids have made over the past 23 years are on it, as well as gifted ones, and ones I first bought when I came to canda. lots of multi lights....ooodles of colour.
I have a string of blue and purple ones in my office that I put together last year.

I decorate for YULE for me and Christmas for my grandsons...which is very similar...
 
HOLLY for the holly king...
 
MISTLETOE....the berries represent semen...  yep..fertility
 
STAR..star of ISHTARE
 
EVERGREEN..the everlasting GODDESS
 
ANGELS...fairies and above beings
 
LIGHT....from darkness to light with the season change
 
LOG....the new log is lit from the last piece of last years log...RENEWAL

Status: offline 		It sounds lovely - you've built a neo-pagan tree, which is, from my limited knowledge, how Christmas started out in the first place. Didn't the Christians come and stick their own celebrations on an anciently established holy day?

The Jesus birthday thing is very cute, and it makes for a charming tale for children, and nativity scenes are beautiful (I was born in Provence, where they basically invented the thing: Creche with santons. ) .

It's a lovely legend, and a wonderful reason to eat, drink, and be merry (hope I said that right :-) .

Yes kittenSol, they did (same deal for Easter). Now I am going to have a bit to eat before I start a religious history debate on this perfectly lovely thread, which is a sucky thing to do on an otherwise perfect Friday evening. Love and Peace, y'all..

Phfeww, that's a relief :-), because the last thing I'd want to do is offend someone who has a correct grasp of religious customs. I doubt the deniers will rush in here: deep down, they know their facts are pretty legends. Enjoy the holidays :-) .

My problem is wax dripping onto place mats and ruining them. A cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil would cure that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Status: offline 		We don't do the simple and elegant here.  We do the outrageous and gaudy!!!  We live in an RV park in AZ for the winter.  We are in the process of turning our parking pad which is all the room we have into a winter wonderland.  The car of course is parked elsewhere for the season.

We have 200 snowflakes suspended from wires 10 feet up.  We have snowflake path lights, snowflake hanging lighs, 42" lighted snowflakes, and we're covering the entire area in cotton batting to resemble snow.  Gary went a bit wild at the after holiday sales when items were 75% off.  He added 11 new Christmas trees to our yard decorations.  We also have a huge snowman and a rocking horse with bear riders and a train set. 

On Christmas Eve we'll set up tables and chairs on the road.  We'll have candy, cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, and wine for whoever walks by.  We'll also set up the karaoke machine so we can all do Christmas carols.  It's all done for the fun of it.  We're all far from family during the holidays and we enjoy bringing a bit of cheer to others.

Status: offline 		Outside this year.  Synchronized light display with music.  All new led lights.

Indoors..we do real, real tree that is.  Which we purchased the other day.  Still going through ornaments
deciding which make the tree this year.  So, far the tree has been here around 4 days and it has about 4 ornaments on it.

A few decorations sitting around that remind us of holidays past..a few photo's.  Small scale here.

Status: offline 		I'm going all out this Christmas - wreath for the door, nativity on the hearth, and a sparkly wreath for the cow skull over the fireplace. I might even hang some of the silver snowflakes on the mantle.

I used to do a tree - and for years i was the one who bought the tree, lugged it in, put it up and decorated it - then reversed those actions. When i moved in with Sir i decided that i didn't want to do it for that year - and the next and the next and the next. Maybe i will change my mind next year and put one up. I have lots of lovely ornaments waiting til i do.

Ornaments have memories attached.  Ones your family gave you, friends over the years. 
We have one ornament on the tree that I remember having on our tree as a child.  It is ugly..a chicken in a basket.
I remember having millions of them as a child, it is the only one I have left..and now it makes it a family tree even though
everyone else is long deceased. 
Cow skull?  Cow hunting?
