ThatDamnedPanda -> Please Pick A Picture For Panda To Peruse! (12/4/2009 5:16:11 PM)

I'm having one of those days, and i can't decide what movie to watch tonight. So what the hell - I'll let you guys pick one. Tell me what to watch. Over the last week or so  I've watched "The Twelfth Night," "Lost Horizon," "Ice Age 2," "The Apartment," "Jerry Maguire," "You've Got Mail," "When We Were Kings," "Frost/Nixon," and "Roman Holiday." I was kind of thinking of watching "Roman Holiday" again, because it was so sweet and because I've got a serious crush on Audrey Hepburn. And I'm in the mood for something light and uplifitng. But I felt it would be more sociable to involve you all in the decision.

I've got over 1,500 DVDs, so the chances are I'll have whatever you guys suggest. So go ahead. Tell me what to watch. I just got the fire started in the fireplace, and I'm having some dinner while I catch up on e-mail, and then I'll check back here and see what you guys have decided. Just... please. Nothing that relies on car chases or explosions.

If you're looking for light and uplifting, Panda, I recommend You've Got Mail.  I love Audrey Hepburn, too, but Roman Holiday ends kinda sad.....I think Sabrina would be a better Audrey choice for "uplifting". :)

Here are some of my favorites:

Black Orpheus
The Pink Panther (Peter Sellers version)
A Fish Called Wanda
Fierce Creatures
The Maltese Falcon
The Wrong Box
Rat Race
Mystery Men

Panda, what did you think of Frost/Nixon? I absolutely loved it.

Hmm.... let's see. Four Christmases, with Vince Vaughn? Harold and Maude? This Is Spinal Tap?

Hi, Stephen. You've got good taste! I don't have "Rat Race" or "Mystery Men," but I've got all the others. "Fierce Creatures" and "A Fish Called Wanda" sounds like a perfect doubleheader for some winter evening. I was actually waiting for a night when i'm in a more ebullient mood for "Pink Panther," and I just watched the "Maltese Falcon" a couple of weeks ago. I've been on a Bogart kick lately; watched about a dozen of his films in the last month ever since TCM ran "The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre" not long ago.

Level, I loved "Frost/Nixon" too. I've always been a big admirer of Frank Langella, and I knew he had a dark, twisted complexity to him that would be perfectly suited for Nixon. I first caught it a few months ago on a plane, and was waiting ever since until it came out on cable so I could burn it. Excellent performances all around, and another solid bullet point on Kevin Bacon's resume.

Four Christmases... that's one I don't have, but I do have Spinal Tap and Harold and Maude. Good suggestions. I may have to pull them out of the rack and set them aside for some evening in the near future.

But right now, I think Windchymes hit a home run. The original version of "Sabrina" sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Perfect. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself, but that's my movie tonight. You're all invited over for popcorn!

Yeah, I know. That ending sucks! It's entirely authentic, but it makes me want to get up and slap my TV and yell, "No! You've got it wrong! Stop fooling around and show  me the real ending!" First time I ever saw it, I went away thinking, "well, maybe she'll write him a letter when she gets home or something..."

Interesting trivia about that movie - since it was her first film, it was originally going to be billed with "Starring Gregory Peck" above the title, and "Introducing Audrey Hepburn" in small script below the title. But after it was in the can (or maybe even while they were still filming), Peck called his agent and had him renegotiate the agreement with the studio - he said she was going to win an Oscar for that film, and she deserved to share top billing. So when the film was released, that was the way it was billed. Class act, that man. They don't make many like him anymore.

You're a mindreader! I was thinking all day yesterday about "Jurassic Park,"  and completely forgot it! I'm kicking myself! But hell, I've already got "Sabrina" in the DVD player.

I'm going to pull "Jurassic Park" out right now, though, so i don't forget it again. Maybe tomorrow night...

Strikes me as a night for "The Lake House."

Audrey Hepburn is nice, yes, but Sandra Bullock...

Hello Dolly - love that movie.  Nothing but happy.
Saving Grace - wonderful British movie.  Bring munchies.
Chocolat - Johnny Depp + Juliette Binoche + chocolate.  How can you go wrong?

Enjoy yourself, Panda!

Watch the Birdcage with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.  It's light and uplifting.

CRACK!  And it's outta the park!  lol......I got sent home early today for snow, so I think I'll pop it in and pop some corn, too! [:)]

Geez, I should have read the rest of the thread before I posted.....

I LOVE The Lake House and Patch Adams, great movies!!!!  Panda, if you've never seen Patch Adams, plug it in after Sabrina.  If you don't feel uplifted after that one, then you just need to pack it in, lol.  Also, if you get a chance, get the biographical movie that came out a few years ago that Jennifer Love Hewitt played Audrey in.  I thought she played her really well, and the movie itself about her life story was very interesting.

Rat Race is an updated, improved version of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.  Mystery Men is a ridiculous story of pathetic superhero wannabes and features a wonderful role by Greg Kinnear as the handsome, shallow superhero Captain Amazing.

All I can think about right now is The Court Jester.

Middle child is ill and has had it on loop for the last days. Did I mention that he is a weird 6 year old? [8|]

trappedinamuseum -> RE: Please Pick A Picture For Panda To Peruse! (12/5/2009 2:47:24 PM)

I just bought Chocolat today, and am sooo watching it!

I suggest:

Lilo and Stitch
Road to Perdition
Star Trek
Up
