Two planes nearly collided with each other after air traffic controllers gave one of the planes incorrect instructions.   The FAA has called the near miss an operational error which allowed the two places to get dangerously close to each other.
A Sky West Regional Jet and a Republic Jet were travelling towards Denver’s airport and put the planes just seconds apart on a collision course.   Pilots needed to take evasive action to avoid a collision.   The images of the planes merged on radar and sources said the planes were within a blink of an eye of colliding.
The near miss occured before Thanksgiving.
This story was originally reported by ABC News

i can't imagine how scary that must have been! i'm sure for many of the passengers, seeing a near miss happen right before their eyes changed their perspectives on what really means the most in life. Thank goodness the pilots involved were able to avoid a disaster.

Maybe the foot odor when people took off the shoes effected people.   and the pilot was drunk.....   those pilots LOVE their booze!

Say what you will about those pilots who overshot Minneapolis but acting on incorrect instructions from the tower would not have been an issue.

35,000 flights take off and land in this country every day. When things like this happen it is a very rare occurance.

The story said they were 200 feet apart vertically and 1.7 miles away horizontally. Sounds to me like the passengers never knew about it. That doesn't sound too close to me. "Evase action" doesn't necessarily mean like the Blue Angels, flying wing to wing. Evasive action can be taken before anyone is any real danger.

If you do the math, assuming for the sake of argument, a ground speed of 500 mph for each depending on what altitude they were at, they were 6 seconds away from collision horizontally.

Vertically even less if there had been any pilot, instrument, or further controller error.

This is obviously a leak. Things like this happen alot more often than people know. I know that from the days of the air controller strike. The sheer volume of air traffic was cited as a major source of the stress under which they work.

Airlines cooperate with the government and media, like any other big business not involved in a conspiracy. Near misses happen nearly every day, but if they told you that you would be very reluctant to get on a plane now wouldn't you ? You will only hear of the nearest ones, if they are leaked to the media. Otherwise the media is really good at shutting the fuck up when it could cost them advertising revenue to actually report the news.
