Maybe because Ralph Nader was right when he was running for president and he said Democrats and Republicans are both corrupt.

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Cafferty: Why is there only bipartisanship when military is involved? - Blogs from CNN.com

A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll – conducted after the president's speech this week – shows his plan wins approval from 63 percent of Democrats, a whopping 72 percent of Republicans and 55 percent of Independents. Gee, with a consensus like that you could actually run the country.

Then why has every GOP elected Senator voted no on war funding since O'bama took office?  while voting yes the 8 prior years

There is no bipartisanship on anything, only voting to protect your party and to get elected or re-elected.  We need to clean house, get rid of everyone and set term limits for every office

I don't think I can explain tonight why Republicans are insane. Unfortunately, right now I'm busy with something but I'll get back to it as soon as I can

How much more obvious can it be ? The "parties", which is all they fucking are, aree nothing but two hands from the same body. If you don't know that already, you need to go back to Civics 202.

Maybe... thinking, thinking, getting tired, thinking some more, taking a break to watch 'The Half Blood Prince', thinking about how Ron is sort of a douche bag, considering how Voltimore splitting his soul into material form is sort of like capital preserving its strangle hold on humanity through manipulation of the material representation of social value, thinking about limits, term something... what was the question again?

Ah right. Term limits controlling costs... Hmm. Yes.

Maybe? Maybe not. The forces that control our political economy are just like Voltimore, 'slytherin' around, finding holes, exploiting weaknesses, whispering in ears, sucking your soul out of your heart and preserving it in a vile to resell on the legendary fairy tale 'marketplace', where human men and women become like licorice sweets and chocolate bars, to be simply and utterly consumed. To find the answer, Lady Tazzereth, go to the gold mines, and see for yourself the future past and past future that awaits your waking bones!

LOL

Put down the remote control to the DVD.

Honestly, term limits would be a good addition. Too many have held office for decades, enabling them to amass considerable power -- some wield it well, some not.

Here are some ideas, along those lines:

Are you familiar with Panopticon? Okay, that's how the congress should be organized. For servants of the people, elected representatives aren't very good at serving, maybe because they don't really tend to believe in God and they need someone (namely everyone) to be watching them at all times for democracy to work.

Maybe Congress could adopt some new sort of Reality TV platform. They'd wear cameras on their heads 24/7, and the people could watch them 24/7 to make bribery and bullshit extremely difficult to perform. C-Span EXTREME.

Yeah, and there should be term limits. And limits on campaign spending. Maybe, also... no two people from the same biological family?

Thank you for the condecending reply.

Reality TV only makes 15 second stars... politicians as we have seen... not servants of the people. Nor do i believe a faith in god is required to serve "we the people". one can be honest and loyal without a religious belief.

I have to agree, Tazzy. The idea of a congressional reality show is scary. Pretty soon all of them will be fighting for camera time and then watch out. Does anyone really want to watch Nancy Pelosi and Orin Hatch hooking up? The house finance committee having a drunken night out at a dance club? And forget the elimination ceremonies.

Reality government tv? Bad idea.

Yep
We have term limits.....elections.It is the electorates job to sweep the ineffective out of office, their failure to do so does not justify the possibility of denying a constituency their chosen represenative.

No the real question is how you could make such an asinine statement.

June 18:

"The Senate today overwhelmingly passed a bill that would fund military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan through Sept. 30, giving congressional backing to President Obama's plan to increase troops and resources for the war in Afghanistan. The 91-5 vote sends the bill to President Obama for signing."

Oh, I understand. You were dreaming that the Dems had a 91-5 majority in the Senate.

Not meant as a condescending reply. That's actually what I think needs to be done for democracy to work properly.

Okay, I mean, at least it's an idea I've been considering semi-seriously. For what does a public official need a private life, except lying, cheating, and stealing? Becoming a public official should be a sacrifice for the people, not an easy way to get power and fame.

Also, that's not what I mean about faith in God. I was thinking more along the Nietzschean "God is dead" lines, that is, 'God' has stopped functioning in its original way, has stopped preventing people from doing things that are clearly wrong, so, now, the people need to step in and perform that role, at least until we can progress to the next stage of human civilization where social values trump private ones. Think, uh, uber-people (Nietzsche rolls over in his grave...)

Also, it's not supposed to be popular. It's supposed to limiting... limiting corruption. All it takes is a few reporters, independent bodies, and the effects would be tremendous, yes, more than term limits.

Balls might help as well, and it's a long time since there's been any reporters with a pair of those, sadly.
