This reminds me of General Motors destroying the electric car. I don't think I like this.

I finally got to them huh ?

I am approaching 50-70 GB of music and movies DLed on P2P. They want to make it cheap enough and easy enough to thwart what they call stealing. It's not, fukum.

They do what they have to do to stay in business, and we respond. When I find a way to capture that stream I will have alot more shit. I got room for three more harddrives and I ain't stopping until they cuff me and stuff me. They started this shit, some suit with a high paid mouthpiece says he needs to get rich off of what somebody else did. So they started it.

And I have responded.

It seems to be getting harder and harder to get my P2P software to connect. Like someone out there is trying to shut it down.

Next move ?

When the Chevy Volt comes out in a year or so, the base price will be $40,000 +. Maybe Brain should buy the first one.

Actually the kid is accurate on GM- Very much so.   Not only did they kill the EV1, they got rid of electric street cars in many cities.

GM, the big 3, big oil,  they all were in on it.

Ya know- as a kid I was allowed to over hear the adults. I loved to listen in.  Mr R., told me so much that at the time was a stray idea to me.  But FUCK!  Mr R., was better then several weeks of formal schooling!

The EV1 was a great car!!!!    You should have seen how intense the fight was.  Google it.

Anyhow- the kid is right on this aspect of the post.

He's right that it was "killed" but not his implication that it shouldnt have been killed. It was unprofitable, period, done, case closed.

Politesub53 -> RE: This reminds me of General Motors destroying the electric car. (12/7/2009 3:58:54 PM)

Early patents for electric cars and engines that run on methane were bought up by the motor industry years ago. It doesnt take  a genius to work out why.

"A good horseman will make a good driver". That is from a driving manual from the early 1900s. In it they described electric cars, overdrive and lockup torque convertors, all that. The only true innovations not included in the Cord were FM stereo and electronic fuel injection. This was when ? Look it up.

The water injection carb, anyone who knows chemistry will tell you it was a great thing, but there were also problems with it. The benefits have been replaced by those of the commonly known EGR valve. An EGR valve actually pollutes the intake mixture with O2 deprived exhaust. It lowers peak combustion temperature and pretty much makes regular burn like high octane premium, except for the power produced. It does reduce knock and ping, but many consider that a side effect because it is required now, because it reduces N2O emissions.

Like the PCV valve instead of the road draft tube. The PCV was required, but it really does you some good. It keeps the oil in the crankcase clean for alot longer. It became required because it reduced crankcase emissions.

It takes some serious study of the history of technology to understand what they are doing. Instead of designing or adapting a carb to the engine which was done for decades, now the thing sets itself with the ECM. Better production and less duds.

With sufficient information I conclude that they do as they please, and pretty much always have. What's more I believe that the big three brought on some of this clean air crap, not for the public good nor any other altruisic purpose, they did it to limit the competition. Wouldn't you ? You have a gold mine here, are you going to let just anyone mine it ?

Sorry that I am so radical so as to be hard to understand in some cases, but I am not likely to change.

T,

You're not all that radical or hard to understand in most cases. You hit nail squarely on the head in many instances. In this one it's agenda and the agenda usually seems to be eliminating competition and maximizing profit (using whatever means necessary). Beneficial or detrimental to the public good is simply a side effect in much of what takes place.

Brain -> RE: This reminds me of General Motors destroying the electric car. (12/8/2009 11:24:34 AM)

I remember watching a story about General Motors killing the electric car on the news last year. I remember seeing a video of old cars in a parking lot. Anyway, General Motors could have started selling those cars first 30 years ago and instead they scrapped them. I’m not a computer obviously so I don’t remember the show I saw, but it’s the truth.

I would seriously consider getting a Volt but I have to also add I'm very disappointed they stopped producing the Saturn vehicles. I like those Saturn vehicles because they don't rust and I actually bought a brand-new one recently.

I really like this vehicle but $100,000 is a lot of money.

Where is General Motors hydrogen vehicle? I am still waiting and it's been many years.

No, I'm not.

"Sadly, despite the substantial investment of money and the enthusiastic fervor of a relatively small number of EV1 drivers — including the filmmaker — the EV1 proved far from a viable commercial success."

Well then.  Good thing they push SUVs.   As the balance sheet reflects " a viable commercial success", or lack of- LOL

You can eliminate the "lack of". SUVs were far and away the most profitable lines for any carmaker, because they were able to build on existing truck technology. It was asinine domestic energy policy that led to the gas price spikes that hurt their sales.

Which means the EV1 ISSSSSSSS a viable car.
