Kevin the answer is probably simpler than you think...My guess is it is a scam.

Was there a yahoo address to write to ?
Did her photo match the details on her profile ?

or it might have just been a loon... I had someone message me for a few days a while back and then finally they asked if i'd do something for them, I asked what, they asked me to "give up bdsm for 6mths to make sure Its really what I want" or words to that effect, and in the time between sending that message and me reading it to reply the account had been deleted forever!

thinking on I also had someone on here message me telling me l looked like someone off the telly, i replied that I'd never had that before and didnt see it myself.... got another about it insisting i really did and persons mate agreed... i go to reply to it and BLOCKED??

rockspider -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/7/2009 5:36:14 PM)

Polite i do agree with you. I don't really understand the mentality of the scammer. I have never meet one i haven't discovered it sooner or later. In the old Yahoo chatrooms they were 14 a dozen Certainly never send any money to them. 95 % of them really were so pathetic it wasn't even fun. I wonder about the rest of your guys. Anybody ever send them money?

PeonForHer -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/7/2009 6:02:10 PM)

My money's on 'scam' as well. "She mailed me this morning saying 'would you like to serve Me'". I think I even remember that particular line, from a 'Californian Domme' . . . .

In any case, a line like that would just reek of fake to me unless it were to come up after a lot of prior conversation. With rare exceptions the real ones want to know shedloads of things about you before initiating a dynamic. The scammers, of course, aren't interested in anything about you other than the contents of your wallet.

PeonForHer -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/7/2009 6:03:49 PM)

You do. You look like Quentin Tarantino's better-looking younger brother.

\urgh god no he's a strange looking (though talented) fellow... that said I saw him in a bar here about two years ago and he's not quite as odd looking in the flesh. and he was absolutely mobbed by girls there...

undergroundsea -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/7/2009 8:38:18 PM)

I don't know if it is the same person but I received an email from a woman in California asking me to check out her profile and that I might like to serve her.

I took a look at her profile and intuitively felt she was a scammer. I went ahead and probed further. I hit reply and a message history appeared--it turned out she had emailed me the same line a couple of months ago and I had not responded. My intuition felt confirmed.

I played along and asked her what type of relationship she envisioned given that I lived in Texas, and what in my profile caught her eye. She asked to move the conversation to yahoo messenger. Yup, scammer.

I told her I did not have messenger installed on this computer but could see that she was online and that I could send a CM chat. She did not respond to the CM chat. I expect the reason is because it would be easier to report the scam since there would be comments asking to buy a membership or the like.

By now I was determined to investigate ;-) I had some recollection that yahoo messenger could be launched in a browser window and did that. In messenger she said that I had to prove myself. I played along and asked her what I could do to prove I was sincere. She sent me a link to an adults hook-up website and to create a profile. Instead of clicking on the link (which I expect carried a referral code), I typed in the web address. It asked to create a profile for free (much like alt). I also typed the web adress of this site into google and found several complaints about scams by that site (including unauthorized debits from bank account). When I told her that the profile was created, she asked me to come into a video chatroom. I told her that the site was asking me to purchase a membership--when she first mentioned the site, I asked her if it was one of those sites that require you to purchase a membership, to which she said no. She said to purchase the trial membership and cancel it within 24 hours--the website said nothing about the ability to cancel. When I told her that I could not find the cancellation policy, she said that I could see it once I entered the chatroom ;-) They will say whatever they have to say to get the membership purchased. All along she kept checking on progress every so often to see whether I had created the profile and whether I had purchased the membership.

Then I said I didn't click on the link she had sent and instead just typed in the web address of the home page of the site (which did not have the referral code that would credit her) and asked if that mattered. Of course, she said that it was important to use the link she gave. I told her I would have to start from scratch ;-) She said that she was going to log off messenger and would be waiting for me in the chatroom.

I expect that had I told her I had purchased the trial membership, she would have disappeared. So that's how that scam works.

Cheers,

Sea

I once was bored enough to tag a similar person along with bizzare claims that I didnt know how to use such sites so if i just gave "her" my bank details would "she" sign up for me... and tagged it along for a while getting wierder and wierder until I was enquiring if the website in question was braille compatible (on account of my blindness).
I wonder how much Id have had to offer for her to invent a braille webcam?

really though dont people just tell anyone with the letters y.a.h.o.o. in their mail to do one?

PsyVamp -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/7/2009 9:13:37 PM)

I'll have to agree with Domin8tingUrDrmz.
I often multitask when on the computer... I've got school and friends and family to attend to at the same time and while I might be able to send a quick text, I will never be able to devote more than 30 seconds to a chat conversation.   I also have the same issue with phone conversations because they do not allow me to concentrate on my school work.

I'm much more fond of email during the initial 'get to know you' phase; more information can be gleaned and if the conversation flows there, I know it has a better chance of moving to real time.

DarkSteven -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/7/2009 9:25:42 PM)

kevin, it does not matter.

If she's interested, she'll get back to you perhaps a day or so later.  If she's not, she's not - move along.

BoiJen -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/8/2009 4:35:36 AM)

I will say this: women are approached frequently by messages about being able to make money just chatting. It's an advertising method used by these sites and companies. These particular types don't see it as scamming. It's work.

Do the "whys" really matter? Why give a virtual stranger so much power over you and how you spend your time. Simply move on.

actually I was just looking back through the messages from that scammer (after tell it I was blind I said I couldnt give it the money right now cos I was late for a driving lesson) and noticed the account was still active, does nothing get done about reported profiles?

I am trying to imagine the job description ;-)
  • Must create profile on competitor sites to contact male members of that site, and move conversation off that site.
  • Must lure said members to create a profile on employer site.
  • Must lure said members to purchase membership using any misrepresentation necessary.
  • Performance based compensation with excellent benefits package.
  • Prior experience useful but not necessary. Will provide script and train.
If a site hired women to chat in their chat rooms so as to enhance ambience or ratios, that is one thing. It is another thing to use deceit to get people to purchase memberships. I cannot fathom they would not know it's a scam. If they think it's work like John Dillinger thought robbing banks was work then sure ;-)

The impression I have is that the reports are not seen by a human but by a machine. The decision to take action occurs when the number of reports exceed a predetermined threshhold. Thus, every report matters.

Hi guys. Ladies i have a question. Why do Women who ask for you to serve Them suddenly disappear and not reply when you invite them to chat.? I mean im not especially hurt but im just perplexed why would Woman do this to a guy.  She mailed me this morning saying would you like to serve Me. She is from California by the way. i said that i would gladly serve Her and would be willing to be her chat buddy. i then invited Her to chat. She has not responded. Is this the new fashion? Come on all like serve Me bitch and then when the male makes the next move he is ignored. i would appreciate your thoughts on my current wrangle with the opposite sex
Kevin

I hope you are not lumping "all" in because of just one.

First off, did you "ask" her if she'd like to chat? or did you just brazenly send an invite.  Just because someone show's interest doesn't necessarily mean that they want to IM at that time.  Or maybe what happened to me a few years ago happened to her...she tried to respond but it fried her computer?

There are loads of reasons...I know I have been in a conversation and my server would just go down

maybe her computer froze, maybe she got a phone call that turned out to be an emergency

maybe you should try and find someone else because it's not really a great start when you start out thinking the worst of someone.  I mean you just assume she playing a game, just wanting to watch you squirm?  I hope she does not read your post, if I was her I'd think you were a big egotistical jerk and move on to someone who would give me the benefit of the doubt...."so" not cool

wouldn't you feel like a fool if it turned out there was an accident or something like that in her family or among her friends and she had to go in a moments notice and just didn't get a chance to stroke your ego before she left?

If the ladies involved in such "work" are leading guys on. Its a scam. It only becomes work if both sides are singing from the same song sheet.

DrkJourney -> RE: Why would Woman not respond? (12/8/2009 4:22:24 PM)

ok I wrote the above comments because I was under the impression that you had conversed with this woman in the past and she decided she wanted to consider you.

If it's like some are saying and this was like email one where she asked....why is this even a concern?  If you have no attachment with her move on...if she has one of the above problems that I mentioned she will contact you when it is resolved.

If she's like the throngs of guys that email me wanting to be mine on the first email and I don't hear back from them for days, weeks, months, "ever"...then who cares?

really not trying to be mean, but....huh?

I absolutely adore the title wording! Before I even read the OP, I had a nice picture of a frowning caveman holding two halves of a coconut, just staring off blankly at a bearded woman walking away from him.

Man want woman. Woman not talky to man. Man sad. And then in most cases: man throws coconut halves at woman, " B****, I thought you were ugly anyway!"

[sm=rofl.gif] I was thinking along the caveman lines myself...lol

I'm sure they don't see it as leading anyone on. They see it as sales...just like that telemarketer that you just hung up on. The only thing is that their catch line for these guys is more appealing than "would you like to look 10 years younger?" These women don't take what we do seriously. Not because they actively think poor thing about people who are into SM, but because sex sells and typical guys being who they are buy it. It's work. You either have the choice to pick up the phone when you don't recognize that 800 number or not.

Some salespersons do use deceit to close the sale. So maybe it's like those sales. But to the extent that comparison holds, it does not exonerate the scammers under consideration but reflects badly on those who use deceit to close a sale. And with these people, every sale relies on deceit, which is why I consider it a scam.

I don't see how can they not see it as leading anyone on when they are feigning personal interest, deliberately lying, and then disappear once the membership is purchased. I think it's more that they accept that the work they have chosen relies on them to lead on and scam.

Cheers,

Sea
